Get the cheaper model. March 27, 2008 Don't get me wrong, this one is fine, but the cheaper one has a much nicer hard cover. This one has a thin sleeve for protection and it isn't very effective. The cheaper model has a hard plastic cover that could probably deflect gamma rays. OK, maybe slow down a BB.
This one does look good - makes everyone think you know how to use it...

By far the best financial calculator in the market. The quality, sturdiness, design, & the layout, more specifically the firm-touch keypad and the no-slide rubber feet, are excellent. No longer is it necessary to cradle it in your left hand while you punch the figures in with your right; the keys are adequately sized to allow a one-hand job and the calculator will not slide around the desk while being used. Having used some of the other brands and other TI models, I was very impressed with its calculation speed as well. So far I've noticed the NPV and IRR to take the longest and that was at approximately 1.5-2 seconds. FAST!! It comes with a fairly comprehensive booklet which came in very handy. I highly recommend going over it at least once.. shouldn't take more than half an hour and it really is very informative... There are multiple ways to input data so a quick read of the booklet will very likely increase your efficiency.
Yes there are 2 cons (minor at best). One is the battery; its those sometimes hard-to-find round disc batteries. Second is the case which is flimsy at best. ONLY thing it will protect the calculator from, if that, is minor scratches. I have no idea why they would settle on such an inferior case but they did. Overall, an excellent product!
Pretty good calculator, and the price is so affordable in Amazon March 21, 2008 i use it for my accounting class, but 8/10 students use different type of calculator in class so does the professor, but then the professor told me that this calculator is neat (i thought so too, thats why i bought it, and you can not get it cheaper anywhere else for new, love the sliver look) and my professor also use it as well (he got 2 calculators), over all this calculator is easy to use, just like the other brand (almost same button), and the manual is not that helpful when calculate the PV,FV,Annuity, but i got help from my professor. Still after you learn how to use it and you will love it.
Good calculator March 18, 2008 I haven't found any drawbacks of this calculator so far. I like that there is no need to have a screwdriver to change a battery during CFA exam. It is rather easy to use and understand the logics of entering the data for TMV calculations.
Solid Calculator and great Amazon Customer Service March 10, 2008 I bought this product a few months ago to use in my studying for the CFA exam. I'd previously used the BA-35 Solar, which I loved for it's simplicity. Unfortunately, the BA-35 Solar doesn't do some of the more advanced functions such as IRR, so I traded up. This calculator is just as easy to use with tons more functionality.
Also, my initial order was lost in the mail by the USPS. I expected a hassle, but after days trying to figure things out through the postal service, I called Amazon and they apologized (even though it wasn't their fault) and immediately sent a replacement free of charge. I couldn't have been happier.
