Just Great! June 27, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
People ripped into 'With Teeth,' and its not half as bad as most of the reviews make it out to be. If it takes 5 years to make anything, take 5 years! Atleast it will be real! Atleast, the emotion sensed from the work will be life-like, whether sad or happy or whatever! This sounds like it was just meshed together for the hell of it. There's pictures of equipment here like "this is it guys, here's where it happens." I really don't know what this was suppose to be (this, or the last 2 'conceptions'). I think 'The Slip' is going to flow in the same direction.
Not a NIN fan, but love this Instrumental Album June 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Without a word on the entire 4-disc album, Ghosts is an excellent instrumental album, ranging in feel from gentle and smooth and hard and grating. Unlike much in the ambient, industrial, instrumental genre, you won't find yourself annoyed by the predictable and repetitive. Rather, the more you listen, the more you will enjoy it. Each piece has a photo as the album art which was the The quality of the music and the recording is superb, best discerned by enclosing yourself in some high-quality headphones. At the price, you will be hard-pressed to find a better musical value.
I would never describe myself as a Nine Inch Nails fan, not in the least, but I have found hours of enjoyment in these cds while reading. I find that my reading retention and length of concentration is increased while listening to instrumental (wordless) music. Apart from classical and a few standout ambient releases (the genre is mostly junk floating in a sea of even more repetitive junk with a few excellent pieces here and there. So this is a very nice, enjoyable, and unexpected find from a guy (Trent Reznor) who I never would have thought to have gone to to help me concentrate while reading the Bible and other books.
For five bucks for almost two hours of music, you'd have a hard time passing this up. Still not sure? You can download the first of 4 cds for free at ghosts.nin.com.
a pleasant surprise June 12, 2008 I'm really surprised at the quality of this album. Nine Inch Nails really experiments in a way I've never heard them, or other similar sounding artists, attempt before. You have ambient sounds mixed with hard rock. The band members must have had a desire to try something different, and I'm really happy the results work. I'm not exactly "in" as far as new music is concerned, but if there's more music like this out there, it might be worth digging deeper into certain bands catalogs.
Still good. June 12, 2008 So Trent Reznor has been making music for a long time now and ever since "With Teeth", he has been in one of his most prolific periods.
Also, even since "With Teeth", it seems like he has been getting more and more minimalistic with his work. Do not get me wrong, it is still good and this album as well as his newest one, The Slip, are both awesome. This is an instrumental work that covers a broad range of musical styles and moods, but as I was saying, it is more and more minimalistic.
If you are a NIN fan, you must own this. If you are a fan of electronic music, this might suit you, but you are a fan of only the poppy NIN stuff or the radio hits, this is not the album for you, but on that same note, the entire cd is only 5 bucks, so you might as well check it out and if you do not like it, you are only out a couple of bucks in the end.
All instrumental - no singing. June 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want hear NIN's new sung album, The Slip, download for free at their [..] The Slip includes the new hit single "Discipline". Ghosts I-IV is all instrumental, so its quite different from other NIN albums.
