A good listen July 15, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I enjoyed her music, just as I did on American Idol. "No Air" with Chris Brown was my favorite.
Cool artist.. July 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As Jordin Sparks was a new artist for me I was really pleased when I listned to complete the CD! A nice voice and a kind of cool music, that I have a hard time to call R&B or Soul. It's a varity of styles and I like it a lot! Her nice voice makes this record one of my favorites for the moment! Here in Sweden I havn't heard or seen anything about this artist or CD, something that leads to the fact that I want to send some "cred" to amazon.com that introduced the artist for me on the net! Surprisingly Pleased and Impressed July 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Wonderful voice! I really like the song choices for the most part and Sparks delivers with a lot of soul and class. It's nice to see a female artist with such great talent who also seems to respect herself in that she allows her music to speak for itself--she doesn't put on a trashy front to get people to listen to her.
Favorite tracks: Tattoo, One Step at a Time, No Air, Freeze, Now You Tell Me, Permanent Monday, See My Side, This is My Now
Highly recommended!
NICE VOICE, DISAPPOINTING ALBUM July 13, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been following Jordin Sparks since even before her "Idol" days when she was a 14-year-old contestant on "America's Most Talented Kids." I thought even then that she had a lot of potential and could go really far. My feelings were confirmed when she not only placed but won Season 6 of "American Idol." With that in mind, I was eager to buy her new album.
The album itself was a real letdown for me as the song choices did not showcase her pretty voice but instead left it mired in between techno-beats and background vocals that were distracting and more reminiscent of something you'd hear on a Britney/Lindsay/Hillary-type album.
There are a few gems interspersed in this album. Among these are "Permanent Monday," "See My Side" and "God Loves Ugly" -- all of these being ballads that showcase both the soft and powerful sides of her vocals. "This Is My Now" is pretty good, although not among one of my favorites. Others, such as "Tattoo," "One Step at a Time" and "Shy Boy" are forgettable.
I realize that Jordin was only 17 when she recorded this -- and she was basically singing songs that were more befitting to her age group -- but I'm hoping her next album will showcase those splendid vocals that won over the fans on American Idol and beyond.
