Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars It certainly is loud, but it works   October 30, 2008
I bought the Clarity C4230 for substantially more than Amazon has it. I should have shopped. I got it for my mother who is nearly deaf and couldn't hear her friends on the old telephone. She can hear them now. In fact, she complained that the Clarity phone was too loud. This is a first. The phone looks like the cockpit of a jet, but is pretty easy to operate as soon as one figures out that one pushes the boost button and then turns up the sound with the volume control wheel. The speaker phone is incredibly loud for those of us who can hear. I'm trying to figure out how to turn that down. The ringer can be set for louder tones or normal tones. The answering machine works very well though the built-in voice sounds like the computer on Star Trek. Both the base and the handset flash red when there is a message on the answering machine. It also flashes red when a call comes in for those who are pretty much completely deaf. One thing I like is that you just pick up the handset when someone calls. You don't have to punch buttons which always confuses my mother who is 88 and not tech savvy. You do have to punch buttons to make a call, but that is not a problem for me though mother still hasn't quit gotten it down. I'd recommend this phone for people with hearing problems. It's the first thing I've gotten for mother than really works for her. I'm now shopping for an accessory handset for mother's chair so she can answer the phone. She never answered the phone prior to the clarity because she couldn't hear the caller. I think she can hear them now. So I highly recommend this phone for the hard of hearing.
