Product Description The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one. There's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. There is also a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. The Access Point built into the Router uses a dual-band version of the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase its range and reduce Dead Spots in the wireless coverage area. To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. Security features - WEP - WPA - WPA2 Security key bits - Up to 256-bit encryption System Requirements - Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 1.0, CD-ROM drive, Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP and Vista, and Network Adapter Dimensions - 7.48 x 5.71 x 7.01 (190x145x178mm) Weight - 1.51 pounds (683 grams)

Linksys WRT600N November 7, 2008 Easy to setup and seems to have better range than my old WRTG45. Not sure if I like the EasyLink software. It has some upsides like showing what computers you have connected and allowing you to name them. But it's always popping up that a new computer tried to connect or a current computer connected and I don't see anything different. It should allow you to look at or keep a log of exactly what tried to connect.
I bought this so I could stream music and also connect my Xbox wirelessly. All the setup was pretty easy and I'm able to stream music from my pc upstairs to my Xbox in the basement. Plus I've played a little bit of Gears of War. I would recommend it.
Works Great And Is Secure October 22, 2008 After setting this up with Comcast cable it worked just fine with 11 computers. It did take some time and Linksys/Cisco provides very good help and documentation. I had to replace my old router since Insightbb changed to Comcast, changing equipment. Three of these 11 computers are laptops; a Windows XP laptop works with wireless. At this point I have never gotten the two Vista laptops to work with wireless, they are working with direct cable input. Since there only 4 ports in the WRT600n I am also using 3 Linksys 10/100 switches.
Great router, but needs improvement. October 7, 2008 I've had this router for sometime. I like the fact that it has gigabit ethernet ports and a usb port for hard drives, but can't use it because the firmware is buggy. It hasn't been a disappointment so far. I have had page loading faster with this router than others. Video streaming isn't interrupted as it was with my old but reliable wrt54gs. The two radios is a plus for those of us than want to take advantage of it. I don't know if it's me, but this router didn't come with the vertical stand. Is this something linksys is holding out on? In the 5 ghz radio I get lower signal than in the 2.5 ghz radio. All in all, this router has been great. I think it needs improvement, but a simple final n firmware should fix it.
utter garbage October 5, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
crashes on a daily basis, sometimes half a dozen times an hour. tried turning off all the automatic channel selection and other complexities, which reduced the crash rate to a couple a day. still unacceptable garbage, especially for $300. i have since ordered a dual-band from netgear for 1/3rd the price and i will never buy a linksys product again. beware if you entertain thoughts of upgrading it to dd-wrt firmware that this model has an un-upgradable firmware version installed on it (search on 600n unable to upgrade on the dd-wrt website) so you won't be able to. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT (or anything by linksys) unless you want to get ripped off.
Seems Pretty Good September 30, 2008 I purchased the WRT600N (I was replacing my 300N for the Dual system) and installed it. For the record all has worked fine. Unit looks good, wireless and wired sections work very well and there (Seemed) to be a better responce than the older one. In fact I have only 1 gripe with this item. The Setup install Prog did NOT work, stopping with Error 302. This happened on my MAIN (XP32) my SERVER (Vista32) and my Laptop (XP32)so I gave up but it all worked anyway?? I have connected 5 other computers to the Lan and they are all picked up by the new "Linksys EasyLink Advisor" Software that DID install ok. It also picked up my IP Cam and my Linksys Streamer. All in all good machine but "Start Setup" caused me problems. I didn't go into cure because the Unit worked ok without it. Just do the setup manually thru Iexplore.
