Looks great, less user friendly than it should be August 6, 2008 The screen is amazing and the overall look and feel of CLIX is lovely. I can't for the life of me figure out how the software and playlists work - the instruction guide is inadequate (as are most) and omits a few vital bits of information that I had to google for. For example, the software showed no "transfer" button to copy over songs onto the CLIX. There was no troubleshooting to explain why. I googled to discover that I had to switch the CLIX over to another mode. Then the transfer button appeared, but not before erasing everything on the CLIX. (I had to re-download the factory wallpapers etc.)
I mostly use this in the car (I bought an FM transmitter for it) and the battery lasts, at most, about 4 hours. When it runs flat, the CLIX forgets most of my presets. Pretty sure that's not supposed to happen... Also, with it just sitting on the passenger seat while it's playing, it's too easy to knock the clickable screen when things like purses jolt against it, interrupting the song that's playing.
What I do love about it is the screen, which is great for playing videos and showing off photos. It also has a couple of cute features like memo recording.
Good Buy July 7, 2008 Love the product, keeps me company at the gym, slim and sleek. Would've given it 5 stars if the software was more user friendly, took me awhile to get used to it. The automatic sync feature with the windows media player was a headach.
iriver clix 4 gb June 15, 2008 First of all, I'm a huge iriver fan. I still have my 899 ifp that I bought 3 years ago. It still works great. I just wanted something bigger. My husband and son have T10s, which are awesome. My daughter has a 799 and decided to switch to a Zune for something bigger (for some reason), but it does not compare to the Clix.
The sound is great on irivers, and adjustable, which is great. On a lot of players you can't adjust the sound. The Clix has a beautiful screen. The themes and wallpapers are so cool. You can download a lot of them on line. It's pretty scratch proof, but still be careful.
You can drag and drop from your music folders (and to any music folders) either in MTP or UMS mode. This is the best part about irivers. You don't have to use a program, so it's easier to organize your files. If you want album art, you do have to use a program, but to me it's such a pain I'd rather skip it.
The battery life is good. I was reluctant to get a rechargeable because of seeing people with ipods having to recharge every 2 hours and I was used to getting 35 hours on a AA with my IFP, but it's about 15 average I'd say for a Clix recharge-not bad.
FM reception is great. You can get it anywhere, even places you can't normally get it. It's amazing.
The only thing I don't like is that there is not continual play between folders like with the old ifp players. That's always been a great thing about irivers. I don't know why they would change that. They need to put an update out for that.
Buyer Beware iRiver March 31, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
Be familiar with device drivers and firmware upgrades. Avoid the unrecoverable "FILE CHECK ERROR" that renders the device 100% dead. Stick with familiar brand names that can support fast changing operating systems and software. I learned the hard way.
Sweet machine March 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The iRiver 2nd gen clix is a great little machine. It's my first player, recommended by my 16 year old son. He has an iPod that broke and said the iRiver was a better choice. He was right! It works so simple even I can do it without thinking. And the sound is fantastic! I use it at work and home. It's simple to use for listening to pod casts too, using the iRiver Plus 3 software.
