Amazon.com Product Description -- November 13, 2007 We've been big fans of Magellan's Maestro line since it came out in early 2006. The Maestro interface is incredibly easy to use, even for those who are not completely comfortable with electronics. With its 3200 and 4200 series, Magellan has improved the Maestro line giving them a SirfStar III chipset that provides super-fast. satellite lock and making them thinner. In fact, at .7 inches, these are -- at the time of this writing (November 2007), the thinnest portable GPS navigators available. peanuts November 16, 2008 The device worked well except when I tried to install a map update the device locked up. Magellan had me send it back to them for different unit which did the same thing. I am still waiting to receive another unit to see if it will except the map update. Third time is a charm???
Get a Garmin!! November 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had and given Garmin GPS units as gifts. I decided to buy this one to try a competitor. Will never buy another Magellan. The traffic alert system whichI paid extra to subscribe to is worthless. The charger is cheaply made and fell apart. I bought a replacement charger from Shack and can't operate and charge the unit at the same time. The touch screen is too small and often doesn't respond.
Buy a Garmin!!!
All I expected and more! November 13, 2008 I was given the same model as a gift thinking it would be a waste. However, I soon was very impressed with it and had to buy a second one for the business. It really does all, and more than I ever expected. Great Buy!
Very good value! November 9, 2008 I just got the Maestro 3250 and my first impressions are good. The feature list was a little daunting at first, but I quickly realized that using the unit for basic navigation is very easy. I was able to update the firmware, enter my AAA information, extend the warranty (AAA member offer) and activate the 3 month traffic subscription without problems.
Installation in my car was also easy. The suction cup on the base attaches securely to the windshield. I may switch to the dashboard mount, but I need to make sure I can remove the adhesive if necessary down the road without marring the dash. The GPS snaps securely into the base and is also easy to remove, but the base feels a little fragile. I'm hoping it will stand up over time since I plan to remove the unit when leaving the car. You just plug the wire into the cigarette lighter to keep the unit charged. You can run it just on the internal battery, but I think the traffic update feature won't work since the wire acts as the FM antenna.
I've used the unit for navigation locally to see how it plans routes and re-calculates if I change direction. So far it has done a good job, but it will take time to more generally assess the accuracy of the maps. There is a 2008/2009 map upgrade available, but at $80 it's more then half the initial cost of the unit - I will probably pass.
Regarding the Bluetooth feature, I paired the unit to my cell phone and made a call from a quiet room. At first the listener said he was hearing feedback. Turning down the volume helped, but overall it seemed less clear than my BT headset. I will try it again while driving, and see if it's better/worse.
My only other experience with GPS is using VZnavigator in my cell phone. That works very well for basic navigation, but it's very limited compared to a dedicated GPS and not worth the expense IMHO. I recommend the Maestro 3250 for its' bright screen, clear voice prompts, ease of use, and affordability.
Slow restart, Screen freezes sometimes, Wrong Route, BlueTooth does not syn. with my cell phone book. November 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pros: AAA TOURBOOK TEXT TO SPEECH/BELL SOUND REMINDS ME TO MAKE A TURN VOICE COMMOND: BY SAYING A MAGIC WORD *MAGELLAN* EXTRA 1 YEAR WARRANTY WITH AAA MEMBERSHIP CARD (I REGISTERED THE UNIT WITH AAA PROMOTIONAL CODE, BUT I CANNOT COMFORM IF I GOT 2ND YEAR WARRRANTY FOR FREE, BECAUSE THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON MY MAGELLAN ACCOUNT) GOOD SATELLITE SIGNAL AAA ROADSIDE ASSISTANT Cons: Slow bootup, Screen freezes, Hard to read the screen under sunshine Mapupdate costs money Slow (Bad?) Customer Service: EMAIL MY QUESTIONS TWICE TO MAGELLAN, NO REPLY SO FAR AT ALL!! MAYBE THEY ARE TOO BUSH?? Unreliable route. Today this unit fools me Four times. It prompts me to exit at an INAPPROPRIATE ramp from the freeway, I followed the BELL SOUND that reminds me to make a turn then I had to drive extra roads and consumes more gas. Rerout speed is slower than my previous Garmin Nuvi 205W ABC Keyboard layout slows my typing speed USB Cable cannot be used for battery charger/car charger is very lose Sometimes, it is hard to mount this unit with the adhesive disc. Blue tooth does not load my phone address, AND dialing a store's number from POI does not work. For example, the phone number lists in a POI, is 650-809-0000, when I touch this number, both my cell phone and this unit says, "The number cannot be completed, please check out the number and dail it again." Why? Entering number into my cellphone is like 6508090000, no dash need. Look again,650-809-0000 and 6508090000 differs. Basically, the Blue tooth in this unit is not good. Voice commond sometimes cannot hear my voice, so I have to speak close to the microphone in the unit.
Not impressed! But for the price $149+tax, it is NOT A BAD deal. USE YOUR BRAIN AND THIS GPS TOGETHER!
UPDATE! I had a very pleasant customer service experience with Magellan's Technical Support! Magellan already shipped me a 2008 spring map update for FREE!! I am expecting to receive it in the next few days! For the price $149+tax,what else can I expect to get?? 2 years warranty(including 1 year AAA membership) Text-to-Speech, Blue tooth, roadside assistant, AAA Tourbook, Voice command, Split view map, chime sound to remind me when and where to make a turn, free 2008 MAP UPDATE($79-$79), AND Magellan's Excellent Customer Service! Very good deal for me! Keep in mind "nothing is perfect!"
