Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Whether used to block out sound while on an aircraft or to create a tranquil environment so you can enjoy your favorite CD track, these new headphones are up to the challenge. The new RP-HC500 noise canceling headphones are designed to reduce background noise by creating out-of-phase sounds that equal the background noise to effectively cancel it. Additionally, the headphones reduce low frequencies such as the drone of a plane's engine or a loud air conditioning unit. The noise-canceling feature can also be switched off to allow the user to converse or to reduce background noise by virtue of the headphone's comfortable insulated housing. Includes carrying pouch and plug adapter for airplane Suitable for MP3 and iPod players

4 out of 5 stars A little tight on my head and they squeak when I touch near the noice cancelling microphone   November 13, 2008
I just received these today and I think they sound pretty darn good. I sit in my cubicle under the air conditioner which is roaring pretty good and with the music playing cannot hear the air conditioning at all. Without music, I hear a faint hissing sound.

The circumaural earcups are a little small and I have medium to small sized ears. I have to wiggle the headphones to get them off my ear lobes. When I do that my left hand touches near the noice cancellation microphone. The way I understand it, the microphone takes the sound and then applies an opposite soundwave to the sample to cancel out the ambient noises. So when I interfere with that, it squeaks in a quite annoying way. Though in normal usage, I doubt I will hear it much.

Overall, I think the price I paid (<$90) is well worth it. I have many pairs of headphones (Etymotic Research ER-6 and ER-6i, Audio-Technica ATH-AD700, Sennheiser HD580, Altec Lansing AHP712 headphones with Active Noise Reduction) and these are very listenable. In comparison with the Altec's, there's no comparison - these have better noise reduction and clearer sound.

I'm pretty sure I've found my airline pair with my ER-6i's.

4 out of 5 stars Quite happy   November 2, 2008
The ear cups are a little small for my big ears, but they are still comfortable and the noise canceling works well. The sound quality is as good as I can ask for, and the price was right. Altogether a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars RP-HC500 Noise Cancellation Headphones   October 30, 2008
Great headphones. Similar style and performance to a Bose set I used to have, all at a fraction of the cost.

4 out of 5 stars RP-HC500   October 22, 2008
Noise cancelling works well for the price. Works best on engine/air conditioning type noises 85-90%. Even blocks 60-70% of your own voice, really weird. Fairly sturdy. You better have tiny ears as they don't surround without touching. I have average size ears and they are 90% comfortable for a few hours.

5 out of 5 stars Tops in noise cancelling and sound.   October 21, 2008
I use these for listning to CDs and MP3s or just getting some peace and quite. They really cancel-out or cut down on noise to a great degree. They will not eliminate my dogs barking but they do cut the edge off - allot! On top of that they sound fantastic.(but not quite as good as my Sony MDR-V6s) Very comfortable, sturdy and far less money then the Bose.
