Product Description VOIP841 series is the first DECT cordless phone with Skype that works without a PC, offering consumers total flexibility and independence from the PC. A full-color graphic display and outstanding sound clarity bring the emotion back to calls. Use your VOIP phone to call via Skype wherever you are. With Skype you can enjoy making free calls all over the world to any other Skype users. Skype, SkypeOut are trademarks of Skype Limited. As your dual phone is connected to both the standard PSTN line AND to the Internet line, you can establish or receive landline and Internet calls on the same handset. Handsfree mode uses a built-in loud speaker to amplify the voice of the caller, allowing you to speak and listen during a call without holding the phone to your ear. This is especially useful if you want to share the call with others or take notes during a call.

This phone has been great! August 18, 2008 I bought this phone several months ago because I have a lot of family in Australia and Skype makes it much cheaper to communicate with them. I didn't want to have to be on my laptop every time I called and I also wanted to be able to receive incoming calls like an ordinary phone.
I have been very happy with this product. It looks very stylish and the interface is easy enough to navigate. I keep the base connector box in my basement next to my wireless connection and the phone unit upstairs.
The sound quality is excellent too.
The only problem I've had with it is occasionally I've had to restart the base unit by power cycling it. That is a little frustrating, but it's not the end of the world. The pros definitely out way that one con.
I highly recommend this product to you.
Philips VOIP841x >>> DISCONTINUED! August 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
From the horse's mouth... 'Philips' has discontinued the 3rd party production of the Skype VOIP841x series.
Don't get stung... do not pay gouging prices, nor pay for the Philips VOIP841 PC-Free DECT 6.0 Wireless IP, which most likely isn't in stock, nor will ever be, and end up fighting to get your money back.
If you really want to buy the Philips VOIP841x, do so through Skype's Shop... at present (Aug 15, 2008), they're in stock... $149 + $9.09 Standard Shipping (California, Tennessee, Washington DC, Minnesota and Massachusetts State residents, applicable sales tax will be applied), as they are the only one that will truly have stock of the Philips Skype VOIP841x units until they are no longer available. Skype wont take your money and sit on it...
There is another unit in the pipeline, which is under development, and it will NOT be manufactured by the previous vendor, due to an unfavorable relationship with Philips... When will that unit be made available... Perhaps fall '08 or later... per Philips.
One would assume the minor bugs in the Philips Skype VOIP841x series phone will have been worked out in the next generation. The Philips Skype VOIP841x is wonderful, as others have mentioned.
Furthermore, I've personally tried the Wi-Fi Phone for Skype (i.e., BELKIN) all are exactly the same, same exact OS, only differences are cosmetic, with the exception of the Panasonic, which is unrelated), and found nothing but problems... battery life, constant ramping of baud rate, etc... You'll notice the majority of persons who have tried the 4 brands of Wi-Fi Phones for Skype, have reported dismal results... I'd wait for the next generation and keep using your Mac or PC for your Skype calls.
Industry Insight... Understand Philips, in many cases, does not manufacture all of their products, as they are dependent upon 3rd party venturists manufacturers, and are simply distributed by Philips, carrying their brand name.
what the heck is up with the price?? August 11, 2008 Both this phone and the similar Linksys 400 have quadrupled in price in the last month (~$100ish to >$400)?? what the heck is going on? does anyone know if they have been discontinued or something?
This price is a rip off! August 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Buy it directly from skype for $129 instead of this outrageous price here! Same phone, 1/4 of the price.
reaaaalllyyyyyy like it August 7, 2008 have it for 1 year.no disappointment at all.its a substitute of my phone home.thanks philips, nice job was done.actually if someone is annoyed by choosing every time what line to use he can go to the the settings and use skype out.otherwise second line is what i expect as an update.but anyway i'm really happy having it.
