5 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for   November 9, 2008
I had one of these in my wife's SUV. I wanted to upgrade the old XM in my work car. This one was hard to find. It works fine, however the price has gone up a little. I paid about $25 for my wife's in 2007.

5 out of 5 stars No Problems, Easy to Use   November 22, 2007
I have owned the sportcaster for about a year and use it both in the car and home. I use the suction cup mount on the car windshield and it has never slipped off. The ease of use and signal is better than my stolen audiovox.
The remote is simple enough to setup without directions and very easy to use. Try one and I think you'll be happy with the unit.

5 out of 5 stars Small size big performance   May 13, 2007
Small size. The unit and its remote fit into a cup holder. My Toyota Camry has an AUX jack and extra power plug, just made for this type of add-on.
Great performance. Except for signal loss under tall trees, tunnels and tall buildings, XM is great.

Excellent for cruising.

3 out of 5 stars clear, small and convenient but the car kit mount is an issue   October 29, 2006

We have an xm roady 2 and it works great but like most of the other more expensive receivers out there, it is bulky and screams out "I am a dashboard add on hog". We love this sportcaster thingie as it is sleek and easy to use in the car (we like simple and easy things when driving) It looks more integrated to the car. It has more frequencies to set to your car radio, and the signal from it is so strong that you should'nt have any reception from existing stations local or distant.very clear transmitter...
The one item that needs to be addressed is the car mount. the radio has such a puny set of clips that it falls out with any road bumps or if you try to change a station or press any buttons... it pops out of the bracket and dangles there until you pull over and re-mount it.
Whoever was in charge of this design should fix it.....I will leave it at that.....
we bought the home kit and the reception is so good that the antenna was simply put next to the receiver and works great. I know from friends that with most other brands, they have to put the antenna near a window. ours is 20 feet away from any door or window/skilight etc, and it worked first time. (We live in an area surrounded by mountains and trees). Hard to believe this home kit is from the same company, as the mounting holder is weighted and very secure. They could have used this same set up in the car kit.By using direct output to the stereo instead of using the units FM transmitter, the audio to us is as clear and full as to that of a CD. There seems to be more punch and clarity to the music.

The tuner is intuitive and this is noteworthy for the typical person who just wants to use the radio without hunting thru sub menus at 60mph.
You just turn it on, press the favorite button to get the stations you easily set before, and away you go.
Oh yes....the basic car kit comes with a simple to use remote that you don't need to look at to use. It is great for the home kit and good for the car as it keeps you from knocking the tuner out of it's brackets when you want to change anything.
My suggestion as a quick fix for the car issue is to secure the radio to the bracket with a rubber band or a black nylon wire tie and the car problem is solved.......

2 out of 5 stars Go for a Roady XT   October 9, 2006

I picked up the Sportscaster after seeing some pretty good rebate deals from XM. I got it and all seemed great: Smaller design, remote, easy to see screen, etc. It wore off after about a week. The mounting bracket is terrible. The radio hardly stayed on the bracket. The antenna jack also seemed pretty shotty. The antenna would be plugged in snug, but everytime I hit a bump or the car shook a little more the signal was lost and the 'Check Antenna' screen would come on. It happend way too often. Before I finally got rid of it the buttons on the unit began not working. I guess I pressed the power button on the unit too hard and it got in contact with the channel changing buttons because the channels would change by itself. I now have an XT and couldn't be happier. Better cradle, larger display and just a better product.
