Product Description 3M Privacy Filter for Widescreen 12.1" LCD Displays - 3M understands that some things you do on your computer are for your eyes only. But it's not always easy to keep prying eyes away at home, at the office, and especially while traveling with your laptop. That's why 3M created this privacy filter that fits any 12.1" widescreen LCD display. 3M's microlouver privacy technology ensures that only the person directly in front of the screen can see its contents. Anyone peaking in from the side will only see a black screen!

laptop privacy screen January 27, 2008 A perfect fit out of the box, keeps my patient's private health info private so I can work with my laptop in a treatment room.
Great - a couple tips though January 14, 2008 I negotiate contracts and travel a lot so I not only have curious seat mates, but opposing interests from whom I need to protect data. I just got a new laptop, so its time for a new privacy filter. A couple tips after 2-years of full time use:
1. If you keep the filter on your laptop full time, consider using a small tab of scotch tape to keep it from shifting in the little press-on tabs supplied with the filter. Otherwise the filter will 'jiggle' against the screen over time and slowly put micro-scratches in the screen.
2. It is not as glare-free as modern screens. It's not as bad as the old glass screens, but there's definitely more glare than with a 'bald' screen. And it does darken the screen a shade or two. If your laptop uses reduced screen power on battery, you may need to increase the screen intesity.
3. Privacy protection. A previous reviewer said 10-degrees either side of head on. That's a stretch in my opinion - more like 30-degrees. Just right for seat mates, but in a conference room environment where the person next to you may push back from a table, there may be some exposure.
Overall, great product. I had no reservations in buying a new one for my new laptop.
privacy is mine again December 25, 2007 I am a road warrior and travel almost weekly. I got sick and tired of wandering eyes from my neighboring seatmates. I can't believe even the 1st class folks want to know what you are typing. I've seen these privacy screens for a long time and finally decided to buy one. It does it's job perfectly. My screen is now completely hidden and black to any prying eyes. Feel free to sit next to me now 'cause you'll never know what I'm typing.
Perfect for using a laptop in a public place, plane or train August 1, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The 3M screens comes pre-cut for standard sized laptop screens -- mine is a wide format 12.1" screen, but just about all the other standard sizes are available. It attaches easily with five stick-on tabs, and you can remove it easily, although I don't bother to do that. You can see the screen perfectly head-on and maybe 10 degrees to either side, with a very slight loss of brightness. Someone sitting next to you on a plane or at Starbucks sees a black screen. They may wonder what the heck you're doing typing into a laptop that appears to be turned off. (If they're sitting directly behind you, your screen will still be visible.) The value really registered on me last week when I sat next to a guy on a trans-Atlantic flight who didn't have one of these. He spend many hours working on a PowerPoint presentation that was completely visible to me, and which included financial information that was confidential. If you use your laptop to work on private things in a public place, get one of these screens and charge it to your employer.
3M Privacy filter June 28, 2007 Product does shield your PC screen from prying eyes from the side. There is a slight amount of dimming of the screen when view straight on but not very much.
