Arnold Schwarzenegger as a pregnant man? The Terminator with cramps and morning sickness? That was all the teasing audiences needed to flock to this 1994 farce, which reunited Arnold with his director and costar from Twins, Ivan Reitman and Danny De Vito. Reitman had also directed the Austrian muscleman in Kindergarten Cop, and they brought the same breezy quality of those earlier films to this enjoyable fluff, in which Arnold plays a scientist who uses his own body to test a revolutionary new fertility drug. His colleague De Vito talks him into the experiment, which succeeds beyond their wildest expectations when Arnold begins a full-term pregnancy. Emma Thompson offers a wealth of comedic support as the biologist who moves into Schwarzenegger's lab while he's coping with his "maternal" condition, and Pamela Reed (who was also in Kindergarten Cop) adds to the fun as De Vito's pregnant ex-wife. What's surprising about this mainstream hit is not that it makes the most of its absurd premise, but that it's also sweetly heartwarming in its treatment of role reversal and the joys and pains of pregnancy. It's a good-natured vehicle for a different side of Schwarzenegger's star appeal, and the fact that it works at all is a tribute to Reitman and his cleverly talented cast. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Terminator meets Nanny McPhee   February 23, 2008
What a hoot. I love Arnie in comedies, and when he teams up with Danny Devito it's a sure win. Then, to have Emma Thompson in the mix!

Don't know how I missed seeing this one in the theaters, but I'm glad I bought it for home. Gave my sons a whole new view of the Governator.

4 out of 5 stars Great Movie!!   November 24, 2007
This is a great movie. Extremely funny and heart warming. A must have for anyone needing more comedy in their life!

5 out of 5 stars Romance rates better than the plot   April 20, 2007

Emma Thompson as Dr. Diana Redding need I say more? The most prose English actress out there had the most wonderful physical comedy role in her carrear... playing a klux.

From the first moment that Emma showed herself in the movie when she literally jumped ontop of the run away freezer and she shouts "Help me! Help me Now!" as she rolls down the ramp and into the lab and Arnold stops the freezer and she falls ontop of him. You knew you had a hit. It was wonderful that she knees him as she is getting to his feet and you can't help but laugh as the strong Arnold gets to his feet holding onto his family jewels with both hands.

The romance between Diana and Alex starts off at the convience when they dance. Now everyone knows that Emma is a wonderful dancer in her own right; but the way she handled herself in "Junior" was top notch. Especially when she spies the toliet paper on her shoe. Kicking off her shoe to send it sailing into a plate of salad was simply classic. I loved how Alex bent down and put Diana's shoe back on, total Cinderella moment here folks, I loved Emma's stance as she looked down into Alex's face.

I loved it when Diana showed up at Larry's house and she started to talk about how she knew Alex from before and how she had a physical connection to him; her surprise when Alex said it was sexual. Their kissing scene was hilourous especially when she went over the tipped couch. Total great moment when she was leaving the house and she was leaning into Alex's quick kisses; and the purse strap in the door was simply divine.

Emma did a wonderful job when Alex finally told her the truth about "Junior", I could feel her pain over the loss of her frozen egg and the loss of her being the one to carry HER own baby. The song morgluge was wondeful although I wish they should more of Emma in it.

I loved it when she showed up at the retreat, the setting and the clothes were simply beautiful and I wish they had more time to talk more about what Alex had done to her. I loved it in his private room with Emma at the mirror and her looking at the sleeping Alex. I wish Diana said more to the baby before she left the room.

I wish Diana and Larry had more time to fight over his stealing her egg and impregnanting Alex with it. I mean that issue simply had to be addressed more. But I loved it at the clinic when Larry had to kick her out of the delivary room because of the danger; you could see the sheer fear in Emma's eyes. When she was in the waiting room with Angela was simply brillant; what a way to take Diana's mind off of what was going on with Alex and her baby when she had to help Angela with her conactions.

I loved the line of Diana's "I have a little girl", usually that's the waiting father's line. I loved it when she was in the room with Alex and her daughter and she got to meet her daughter for the first time. I wish Diana had the chance to hold her child to her in the movie, she never got to hold her child.

The romance waits way better than the plot. I was doubtful when I heard that Emma was playing against Aronld; but Aronld surprised me as he did in "Twins" and "Kingteon Cop". Total 10 stars for the romance and 2 1/2 for the plot.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic...Magical   January 7, 2007

This documentary follows 2 years in the life of a brave scientist, Dr. Alex Hesse who is willing to sacrifice his own time, health, and life to answer the question that has boggled the minds of men since the dawn of time; Is it possible for men to bear children, and if so, are they better at doing it then women or simply different. While its obvious throughout the film that the male body is not designed for the carrying of a child, Dr. Hesse does it with a grace and without complaining (at least that is shown). The film is powerful and magical
