Amazon.com Product Description For multimedia mavens on the go, the HP Pavilion tx2110us tablet PC is light enough to take anywhere and is a great resource for showing presentations thanks to its 180-degree swiveling 12.1-inch touchscreen display--which folds flat to enable the convenience of capturing hand-written notes and drawings. Weighing just 4.5 pounds, the tx2110us delivers the same screen resolution and performance as a 15.4-inch notebook, but weighs over 2 pounds less. It features an HP-exclusive Echo pattern that was inspired by the rings forming a digital fabric that mimics our lives. Encouraging direct interaction, the backlit media control panel responds to the touch or sweep of a finger. Protect your system and online accounts with your unique fingerprint for advanced security and peace of mind. The integrated 1.3-megapixel WebCam (and integrated microphone) provides easy video conferencing via VoIP and video IM chats. And control content from up to 10 feet away with the HP Mobile Remote Control that can be stored in the ExpressCard slot for convenience. Optimized for mobile performance, it's powered by the 2.1 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 dual-core processor, which offers 64-bit computing capability and higher throughput for simultaneous computing tasks. Other features include a 250 GB hard drive, 3 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), quad-mode Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard slot, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 video/graphics card with 527 MB of shared video RAM, and Gigabit Ethernet. It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1), which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures. The Basics - Processor: The 2.1 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PCas capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly thanks to the innovative Direct Connect Architecture. And it's designed to handle simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. You'll enjoy long battery life thanks to the AMD PowerNow! power management technology, which delivers performance on demand and can extend system battery life up to 65 percent. And the AMD Digital Media XPress technology delivers stellar multimedia performance and playback on digital entertainment such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.
Each processing core has a 512 KB L2 cache (for a 1 MB total), and this processor can deliver up to a 1600 MHz system bus for lightning quick computing reflexes. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) - Hard Drive: The extra-large 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 3 GB of installed RAM (PC5300, 1 x 2 GB, 2 x 1 GB) helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card. It also offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. This notebook has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (2 x 2 GB). To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
This LightScribe DVDRW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art. - Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).
- Integrated Fingerprint Reader: A fingerprint reader offers advanced security by using fingerprints instead of standard passwords to access online accounts, such as banks and e-mail. To set up access, each fingerprint is associated with a password through Verisoft Access Manager. Verisoft Single Sign On (SSO) stores user names and passwords to an unlimited number of sites and automatically enters logon credentials. If more than one person uses the notebook PC, each can use a fingerprint to logon to a computer user account and access preset preferences and files.
Screen, Video & Audio The 12.1-inch touchscreen-enabled WXGA high-definition LCD can swivel 180 degrees, providing optimal angles for viewing DVD movies and business presentations, and it folds flat for working in tight travel spaces such as airplanes or trains. It has a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. Video is powered by the integrated Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 527 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks. One of the headphone jacks is also compatible with SPDIF digital audio output for home theater surround sound. Networking, Connectivity & Expansion Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with this notebook's integrated quad-mode Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). You also get super-fast wired connectivity, with a Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000). With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. This notebook includes a next-generation ExpressCard 34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a good offering of connectivity options: - 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- Analog video out: 1 VGA monitor port and 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV or projector
- 1 ExpressCard 34
- 1 headphone jack (with S/PDIF digital audio compatibility) and 1 microphone jack
- 1 notebook expansion port 3 (for use with the HP xb3000 Expansion Base or the HP Notebook QuickDock)
- 2 consumer IR (infrared)--1 on notebook, 1 on LCD panel
- 5-in-1 memory card reader (Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD Picture Card)
- Gigabit Ethernet port for 10/100/1000 networking
- Integrated 56K modem (V.90)

Good machine; horrible support July 14, 2008 I bought the HP tx 2120 us at Fry's in Phoenix in early June, 2008. When I got it home, I could go no further than turning it on because someone at the factory had swiped their finger across the reader and it would not recognize anything I did. If I lived closer to Phoenix, it would have gone back to the store that night. Instead, I spend hours on the phone with an Indian tech who was worse than worthless. Then I spent more time with an on-line chat tech who was equally as bad. These people had no idea what to do other than to send out some recovery discs. I told them to send the discs but they never came. I decided to run all the diagnostics I could find and eventually, I was able to get it to allow me to swipe my own finger and I was finally able to use it. The next issue was when I tried to connect to my HP Laserjet printer. Nothing I or a local tech did helped get the two connected. Finally, I tried the on-line chat again. This guy was at least as bad as the others; he kept sending me to a site that had no way to download anything. Again, on my own, I finally managed to download the drivers and get connected. The machine itself is a good one. I hear others complain about it getting hot and the "crapware". This one does not get hot and the stuff I did not want was fairly easy to get rid of. I am certainly not a a computer geek, but aside from what I mention above, this is a good easy to use machine and I am getting to along with Vista just fine. The only reason I do not give it five stars is the support. There is none. If you want a good machine, this is it. Just be aware that you will be entirely on your own. HP apparently is not interested in anything resembling support for their products.
TX2120US Is a great tool. July 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
HP Pavilion TX2120US 12.1" Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-64 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)
First the negative.
1. Because the HP Pavillion TX2120US comes pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit operating system this has limited this hardwares ability to run some of the best Tablet PC software out there, such as Education Pak, Ink Desktop 2.0 etc... which are all Microsoft Products. I hope in the near future that Microsoft updates their software to run on their new 64 bit system.
2. Stylus: It's not that the stylus is super cheap but there are other stylus' out there that are definitely higher quality. ;)
3. Sound: Sound isn't horrible but it definitely doesn't deserve to get a "Great" rating either. Fact is anybody buying this tablet should know that the fingerpring reader, the screen, several buttons, the mic, the camera, and the sound all come from the screen which pivots on a very small joint. Which by the way is not cheap or flimsy.
4. DVD Eject Button: Now I understand that as a manufacturer you need to put the button in a place that if it accidentally gets bumped it won't pop open your drive but if you have big hands like I do than you might want to consider creating a DVD eject shortcut on your desktop like I did by downloading nircmd.dll. There are tutorials out there if you need help.
Now for the positives.
1. Screen: 5/5 Bright, clear, responsive to the touch and large enough to satisfy any user.
2. Battery: 4/5 I have read many places that the battery is only good for 3 to 3 1/2 hours of batter life but after I purchased mine and conditioned the battery (correctly) I was able to get between 4 and 4 1/2 hours of battery usage on "BALANCED" power setting.
3. Processor, RAM, and HD: 5/5 As far as a pc/notebook I don't think I could have asked for more in such a small machine. AMD Core Duo 2.20ghz / 4GB RAM / 250G HD... compare that to other machines in $1150 - $1400 dollar price range and you might find something with 160G HD and 2 maybe 3GB RAM. Not to mention the added bonus of having a touchscreen. ;)
4. Keyboard, and Ports: 5/5 I have read other reviews calling the keyboard "Cheap" or stating there aren't enough ports on the tablet but when you consider the size and portability of this machine it has more than enough to do the job. This machine has 3 USB, 5in1 Reader, 34mm Express Card, Expansion Port 3, Ethernet, Tele, S-video out, 2 headphone, and 1 mic slot. It also comes with a remote control that easily stows in 34mm express card slot.
5. FingerPrint Reader: 5/5 Before I purchased this machine I thought to myself what a waste this addition would be... WRONG. With the additionof the fingerprint reader it quickly and efficiently gives you access to your computer, files, email, banking, etc... and is easily programmable with their preloaded DigitalPersona software.
6. Loaded Software: 5/5 The reason I am giving this a 5/5 isn't because the software is so good it's because there isn't much "bloatware" at all. ;)
Final Thoughts:
This is an excellent machine for the price and I had been hard pressed in finding a machine that had as much goodies packed into it for the price. Whether you use it for business, education, or just for leisure I think you will find this to be more than a suitable choice for all of your pc needs.
I hope this helps!
Good, but not great July 5, 2008 I read all reviews in Amazon for this product, and they all pretty much include all the pros and cons I found with my machine. I first got a tx2120 to replace my old Acer 5050, since I have to attend several meetings at work, and I return to school--I thought a tablet PC will be a functional and efficient way to go. I only kept it for 2 days after struggling with most of the programs I require for my job to work on a 64-bit Vista OS. I replaced it with the tx2110, and after working several issues with Vista compatibilities, I got it to work. After having it for three months, I think the product is not as good for the purposes it was designed.
I can not use it at job meetings or in the class at school because of the ridiculous loud noise it makes--very disruptive. If the room is bright, the screen reflects a lot. And as others mentioned, it gets steamy hot! I hope I have kept my old Acer, which was as fast as the tx2120 or tx2110 (with only 1GB or ram), and because I paid for futures that are functional but very disruptive. Since the tablet PC feature works great to its advantage, I give it a 3-star rating (otherwise it would probably a 1-2). And HP's customer care is not the best, so be ready to make several calls, and maybe mail your machine to get it fixed.
This baby is HOT HOT HOT!! June 29, 2008 No joke. I bought one of these and sent it back because it got so unbearably hot I couldn't bear to hold it. Instead I bought the newer model tx2510us, which has the newer AMD Puma processor and ATI graphics. It does get warm, but not scorching like the tx2120us. I think the ATI graphics are an improvement as well. If you are interested in a low cost tablet, I would steer clear of the tx2120us and consider the tx2510us instead.
EXCELENT PRODUCT!! June 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The performance is excellent. The cost benefit is unbeatable.
To improve: When there is plenty of light is uncomfortable because it reflects the environment.
