I should have bought this five years ago April 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I upgraded from a USB color inkjet to this networked laser printer. I can't believe how fast the printing is and I can't believe the convenience of having the printer on the net. I'm technical enough that I was able to give the printer a permanent IP address and all the computers at home (about 6 of them) have no trouble finding the printer using Apple's Bonjour or avahi for Linux. Other reviewers complain about tech support but luckily I haven't needed it.
I was aware of the 1/4-full 'starter' toner cartridge but we got over 500 pages out of it. Even though the new cartridges seem expensive the cost is less than 3.1 cents per page, which is very reasonable for an entry-level laser printer. We don't print so many pages per month, and we are thrilled with the speed, convenience, and quality of this printer.
Good Printer April 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The printer is good. It is easy to install. I comes with a nic card built-in. You don't need a printer server but you do need a dhcp server if you want to put it on a LAN. It also has a web configuration interface. The output is also good. Overall i like it and I recommend it. I give 5 stars.
Watch out for the 1/4 full toner cartridge April 1, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I own the predecessor to this printer in the Lexmark line. Be aware that at least for the earlier version, the printer came with a toner cartridge that was only 1/4 full (they don't tell you this, you find out after you've opened the box). Now I'm back at Amazon to buy a replacement cartridge, and I've learned that they are almost the same price as the original printer! So you may find it helpful to find out how much toner is in that cartridge, before you buy.
Networked + Laser + quick = one MEAN printer March 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Straight out of the box, took me 10 minutes to get it up and running. This printer is a neat package and is exactly what I was looking for. Other network printers are at least in the $250 price range. -Network printer -Laser B/W - very quick -Plenty for home and home office use. for the price I paid for it, its a snatch!
yeah it doesn't take a whole ream of paper...but that's not a big deal. The quality is great. It sits in the living room in the corner so anyone can use it and it doesn't take up space in my work room (which is already packed). Its plugged into the wireless router in the living room. so the printer is wireless. Great product Lexmark. GOOD JOB! I am a average user, print taxes, applications, envelopes, directions, confirmations, recipes etc etc....you know, day to day stuff.
Provides basic printing only - not recommended February 1, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Have owned it about 6 months. I wanted a network printer (wired) that would attach to my wireless router. Used for basic printing, mainly letters and high school papers.
Positives: - Prints a basic text document well - Startup and print speed are very adequate for a home office - Setup and driver installation were easy - Network setup was relatively easy (I am experienced in the area) - Needed a printer that would print from Windows 98 (see cons below) - Relative inexpensive (I paid $99) - Only jammed once in 6 months
Cons: - Uses a lot of power, lights dim when you print - Paper has slight curl, less of curl than brother printers, if this bothers you buy an HP - Limited to about 125 pages in bin so it is not a heavy duty printer - Toner is expensive for this kind of printer about $65 for 2000 pages hoping to find refurbished toner cartridges online - Comes new with a limited toner cartridge so you need to buy one almost immediately - Problems printing from software other than microsoft software in Windows 98 (lights blink on printer and nothing prints) - Tech support is useless and doesn't speak english
I would not recommend this printer. Although it is adequate for most basic printing needs the tech support is terrible.
