Book Description The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2,000,000 copy bestselling inspirational book, The Power of Now With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived "in the now." In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence. The Power of Now was a question-and-answer handbook. A New Earth has been written as a traditional narrative, offering anecdotes and philosophies in a way that is accessible to all. Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of lifeand for building a better world. About the Author ECKHART TOLLE is a contemporary spiritual teacher who is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition. In his writing and seminars, he conveys a simple yet profound message with the timeless and uncomplicated clarity of the ancient spiritual masters: There is a way out of suffering and into peace. Eckhart travels extensively, taking his teachings throughout the world.

Seriously, how can people believe in this stuff? July 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Why are people so weak minded, that they fall sway to dazzling words? I am constantly amazed at how gullible people are. Especially noting how easily liberals fall under the spell of Rock Star Messiah B. Hussein Obama, like cult followers, they check their brains at the door and worship their new master. I thought people had more independent thought than that. This book is just another feel-goody book chalk full of inspirational lines designed to make you feel good and tingly inside....as if Obama is speaking on a live stage of 70,000 and people are fainting (where is Benny Hinn when you need him?).
This book panders to your emotion, rather than your reason. Actually, it assumes you have very little reason and is more an attempt to brainwash you into an amoral world of relativity where man is God. SOrry but this is just a utopian dream, and is making someone very rich. It will solve nothing.
Transformation of Consciousness Made Easy July 8, 2008 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
I absolutely love this book and I love that its commercial success is bringing into the mainstream the message that the Transformation of Consciousness has become a possibility for humanity and the planet. The concepts are laid out very simply making them very accessible. Every short chapter is a gift that supports you in understanding the nature of your mechanical behaviors and in developing the awareness necessary to be Present and in the moment rather than lost in your thoughts, your emotions and the story of your life.
So if you can take 3 books to a deserted island this summer, I recommend that you put "A New Earth" on your list, along with 2 others which have also had a momentous impact on my life: Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation. In those 2 books, the authors, Ariel and Shya Kane develop the concept of Instantaneous Transformation, which is the shift which takes place when one lines up with the Moment and becomes a Presence rather than a sum of mechanical thoughts and behaviors. Those 2 books, like Tolle's, have the rare quality of transforming lives on impact and should be added to your must-read list.
Not Worth Reading July 8, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is the first.....and last.....book I'll ever read from the Oprah Book Club List. It was repetative, redundant, and self-absorbed. If the ego is the enemy, then why do we even have one? Maybe I missed the explanation of this as I was attempting to wade through all of the spiritual quotes and anecdotes. Tolle would have helped more by writing a book geared toward developing healthy egos rather than suggesting we eradicate them altogether. Our ego is what connects us to.....and helps us function in.....the corporeal world. No one would suggest the ego is the only component of the human psyche, but I'm wondering why Tolle has such an all or nothing attitude toward it. In any event, I read a fair amount of metaphysics and found most of this to be an overly simplistic rehashing of attitudes from other faiths mixed in with the relentless babble of the author. If you are looking for a deeper examination of consciousness and the nature of reality, I highly recommend the Seth books by Jane Roberts. A New Earth did nothing for me personally other than reinforce how much power Oprah has over the minds and hearts of the hungry, vulnerable masses.
Definitely worth it!!! July 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read many reviews of both "A New Earth" and "The Power of Now". Yes, "Earth" is a bit of a rehash of "Now" but I found "A New Earth" quite a bit easier to follow. I was glad I had that under my belt before I tackled "The Power of Now".
For me, these books are wonderful guides to living a peaceful, happy life no matter what happens to you. What I like about them is you can take the concept of God to wherever you are comfortable yet the principles still stand.
I HIGHLY recommend this book and if you have the time, do the classes on Oprah. Hearing from the author himself is helpful and rewarding.
Be yourself again July 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A New Earth is definitely a great relief for those who are stuck in internal chatter and/or a false sense of self. It helped me resolve those problems and I wish that I had read it many years ago (although that would be impossible because it wasn't even written). Spirituality needs to be taught in high school, seriously.
I gave this book three stars though for two reasons: it's too repetitive (300 pages could've easily been compressed into 100 pages) and most of the content is useless, boring ramble about the same thing.
