Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.

The Crime: Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars

Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn’t be more proud. He always was the smart one.

The Cousin: Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom’s sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

The Complications: Murder, kidnapping, destruction of personal property, and acid reflux

Less than a week after Dom’s release from prison, Joe Morelli has shadowy figures breaking into his house and dying in his basement. He’s getting threatening messages, Loretta is kidnapped, and Dom is missing.

The Catastrophe: Moonman

Morelli hires Walter “Mooner” Dunphy, stoner and “inventor” turned crime fighter, to protect his house. Morelli can’t afford a lot on a cop’s salary, and Mooner will work for potatoes.

The Cupcake: Stephanie Plum

Stephanie and Morelli have a long-standing relationship that involves sex, affection, and driving each other nuts. She’s a bond enforcement agent with more luck than talent, and she’s involved in this bank-robbery-gone-bad disaster from day one.

The Crisis: A favor for Ranger

Security expert Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, has a job for Stephanie that will involve night work. Morelli has his own ideas regarding Stephanie’s evening activities.

The Conclusion: Only the fearless should read Fourteen.

Thrills, chills, and incontinence may result.

5 out of 5 stars A fun and fast read   July 26, 2008
I've enjoyed the Stephanie Plum series and this new installment was just as fun as the others. Once again I found myself laughing out loud thoughout the story and sad as I read the final sentence. Looking forward to #15!

3 out of 5 stars Not up to Janet's usual standards   July 26, 2008
I'm a long-time fan of Janet Evanovich and, as usual, looked forward to reading her newest book. I found the book to be sub-par, nowhere near as funny or suspenseful as previous Stephanie Plum books. Lula was well-written as usual(think wedding dress) but I missed Grandma and especially Ranger. He didn't come rushing to Stephanie's rescue as in the past. The Brenda story line was ridiculous although I liked the characterizations of Mooner and Zook. My suggestion would be to get this book from the library if you just want to keep up with the series, instead of spending actual money on it. Overall, Janet has produced such good books in this series that I do still look forward to the next book.

3 out of 5 stars Fearless - well, not quite   July 26, 2008

While Stephanie is always good for a laugh or two and grandma is a real hoot, somehow this book just missed the mark. It was just not up to Janet's usual standards. Don't know if it is because she is running low on good story lines, or what, but I sincerely hope that number fifteen is better than this. I'd hate to see "Fifteen Flops" as a headline.

5 out of 5 stars Janet has outdone herself with   July 25, 2008

this last Plum novel. Silly, humorous, easy reading, just a lot of fun. I've read all of her Plum novels and this one was the most fun. I like the way she's handling the involvement with Morelli. Keep the Plum novels coming Janet.

2 out of 5 stars Too Much Slapstick   July 25, 2008

I have been a big fan of the Stephanie Plum series, and this one was disappointing. Most of the book consisted of slapstick type scenes, and characters acting out of character. When 15 comes out, I will probably still buy it, but will hope for better.
