I have suffered much loss in the last few years, and am looking for some comfort or at least some understanding of why things happen. In reading the reviews on this book I thought I finally found what I was looking for - WRONG. Didn't get it and seemed too far fetched. Things just don't work this way. So, if you are reaching out for some answers, comfort, etc., don't read this one. Sorry.

I received this book as a mother's day present (which was yesterday) and I have not put this book down. One of the great things about this book is that by the third or fourth chapter, you're already in the meat of the book. But the best thing about this book is when the man goes back to the shack and meets God. Their conversation answered 10 years of questions and doubt. I put the book down and cried like a baby. I can't begin to describe to you the clarity with which the author describes God and His love. I will be giving this book to people for a long time and will forever be an advocate for this author. He has won my respect and gratitude for a lifetime.

This book was a fast read, written at about a 6th grade level (not that it was baby-ish). If you can get over some of the corniness and look beyond the actual religious overtones, the book can make you think. (WARNING: SPOILER STATEMENTS MADE HERE FORWARD) Imagine the staunch believer finding out that the Creator doesn't expect you to run around living by a bunch of rules that men made up along the way.... Imagine the fire and brimstone believer reading that there is no hell... Good Stuff! Imagine God saying that SHE doesn't want people running around following the commandments and other rules-that SHE wants everyone to chill out and just LOVE.... ooh the thought of a God who is about love and not about judgment?? Imagine the thought that you are not supposed to fear God...Who'd have thought it? Imagine that God is neither male nor female and can appear to you the way that suits your needs? That's right-it's not meant to be a male-centered belief system where women are kept down...oops, the secret is out finally after over 2,000 years.... Fiction yes-but what religious book doesn't have a lot of fiction in it?
The story itself is interesting and kept my attention most of the time.
I recommend the book so long as you take some of it with a grain of salt and are not a sheep-like follower who doesn't think on their own. If you are expecting the same old "Thou shalt not..." stuff, stick with the bible.

I thought this is probably one of the best books, that I have read, in the last 20 years. I really enjoyed the principles. It has had a deep impact on me.
