2 out of 5 stars Flimsy   June 22, 2008
I ordered this from another site for my 6 year old son. He was so excited about it, but I was less than thrilled when it arrived and I saw how cheap the habitat was. My son also hated the long wait (about 4 months!) for his tadpole (not the company's fault I guess.. they wait to ship until the weather is tadpole-friendly).

We've had him for about 2 months now, and he still looks the same as the day we got him. After reading reviews here it sounds like it can take 6 months before we see an froggy-ness on him.

I'm frankly tired of cleaning the tiny flimsy habitat, and I'm contemplating converting my son's old fish tank into a frog tank instead.

2 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY. Flimsy product- poor service!!   June 16, 2008
The first thing of note is when you take it out of the box, it has a plastic overwrap that protects it in the shipping container. This overwrap is actually much more durable than the product itself! For wht this is sold for, it is hardly something a kid should be around. The entire container is so wafer thin that unless never touched and treated with kid gloves, will crack, break and become useless. Think of a milk gallon jug; these are 4 times the thickness of this item by comparison.

The lid is also just a dropped on item, if your creature inside has any gumption at all, it can easily push it off and escape. Since were dealing with frogs that have powerful hind legs, this has already happened. Unfortunately due to the flimsy nature, any attempt to weigh the top down will collapse the sides.
The Frog Farm took over a month to send my tadpoles, which I can understand, however even though I followed the directions to the letter, within a week both had died. (G'bye $13) rather than bother to use the guarantee, I found a local place that had some young Firebelly Frogs, which are about the same in size that the Leopard would have grown to and need the same tropical enviroment.

Now the good part:
I have this at my desk at work, it is bright, cheery, very well received. The two part structure makes it a breeze to clean. The frogs aer happy and seem to like the enclosure.

Synopsis:
Simply not for schools or anyone under 16 years old. It is not designed to last forever, or much over about a year really. For your kids, get teh Grow-a-frog kit, its much better built and will last a long time.

3 out of 5 stars be patient   June 13, 2008
We got planet frog for Christmas 2007, and I sent for the tadpoles a few weeks later. Our tadpoles arrived in April 2008. I did not have a problem transitioning the tadpoles to their new environment, just followed the directions. It is now mid June 2008 and as I was watching the tadpoles earlier I noticed that there are bumps where the legs should be coming in. I am amazed that I have not managed to kill the babies yet as I have problems keeping any fish except betas alive. Planet frog is a good learning experience and teaching tool. The "tank" is rather flemsy and I am glad that my children (ages 4 to 11) have left it alone considering how curious kids can be. It teaches patients and science (metamorphasis). I think that if anyone is going to purchase this product that they need to understand things are not going to happen overnight. I am planning on changing to an actual tank when our tadpoles get their legs. So far no problems just practicing patients but... Good things come to those who wait, so we are (waiting)

2 out of 5 stars Buy a real tank instead!   May 12, 2008

We finally received our tadpoles in November! How fun it was to watch them swim in their new plastic (flimsy) home. Ack...I knew at some point I would have to buy them a real tank, but thought I'd see if they turned into frogs first. The months past and nothing happened...November, December, January, February, March, April and whoah now mid-May. We finally got a froglet! He was adorable with his new legs! He swam around like a kid just learning how to ride a bike! Ahh but his crappy home was the beginning of the end. He got his leg caught in the ledge and died a half hour later. :-( We still have 1 more tadpole we are waiting on here. I will be out today buying him a new home so he doesn't end up like his friend. VERY sad to watch happen. I'm sorry I didn't just buy a real tank from day 1.

Not worth the money! What I expected to come was a frog habitat made of hard plastic like you would purchase in the store. What came was this flimsy plastic product that had the background image taped to it. If a child picked this product up with water in it, it would collapse. Go to Target a purchase a product made of better quality!
