3 out of 5 stars A little more info on the product...   November 22, 2007
This system was installed into a Chevy Express van. Here are a few observations and things that we would have liked to know before purchasing this product...

You can see the LCD display through the cutout on the front of the box. Below the LCD, you can see 2 of the eight sensors included in the kit. There is also an instruction booklet, a control module, and wires included for installation, as well as a drill bit for drilling holes for the sensors.

This system turns on the rear sensors when you put your vehicle in reverse (you are instructed to connect one sensing wire to the wire that goes to the reverse light bulb), and turns on the front sensors when you hit the brakes (the other sense wire connects to the brake light wire). There is an audible beep coming from the LCD display only when backing up.

All the sensors plug into the control module, as do the power leads and the LCD display. The control module comes with a big piece of double-sided tape stuck on the back of it. This is what you will use to mount the control module. For the connections to the reverse light and to the brake light, you will need to either install a wire tap or splice wires.

Be careful if you have a bumper that has a plastic cover over a steel bumper, because after drilling through the plastic bumper cover, you may need at least 7/8" clearance if there is a steel bumper behind the plastic. The instructions also recommend cementing the sensors in place, but there is none included in the kit. You will need to secure all the wires, but no wire ties or electrical tape are included in the kit. There is no inline fuse on this product.

For the install on the Chevy Express van, some of the sensor wires were too short. This kit may be better suited for an automobile installation due to the length of the wires supplied (sorry, we did not measure them). The wires to the sensors are coaxial wire.

Install was a success. The display shows range in meters (as opposed to feet). So far everything seems to be working ok, but the beeper in the LCD display sometimes does not work. There is no brightness adjustment on the LCD screen, so keep that in mind when you mount it. The LCD screen does have a single button used to mute the beeping noise.
We'll see if this unit makes it through this upcoming Chicago winter!
