Canon 610 vs. 520: Is bigger better? April 30, 2008 I've had good results with old Epson Stylus printers (incredibly cheap to run) and more recently with an HP (the key is a good software match), but both my wife (formerly a dedicated HP fan) and I have had superior, non-problematic results from the Canon Pixma IP4200 and 4300. Keep an extra cartridge on hand for each of the five colors (2 black types), and you can otherwise forget about the printer, even if you do reams of paper each week. But I required an All-On-One for scanning music, so I purchased the Pixma MP610 at a lower price than the somewhat neglected MP520.
The MP610 is the earlier model. It boasts faster printing, higher resolutions, and a larger monitor screen than the somewhat newer 520.
Why am I reconsidering the apparently superior Pixma MP610 and wondering if the 520 might, after all, be the smarter purchase? 1. I do little photography with the machine; 2. the 520 is 3" less wide, opening up precious desk space, and it's 5 or more pounds lighter; 3. the 520 uses a single black cartridge rather than the more expensive, time-consuming 2 blacks that annoy me with the Pixma 4200; 4. the 520, as a late 2007 model, is especially user-friendly and bug-free, made to order for all of the most recent operating systems.
For me, the compelling reason to keep the 610 is duplex printing, a feature missing on the 520 and one that seems indispensable once you start using it.
Canon All-On-One April 29, 2008 Order arrived quickly. Nice printing, pictures too. Don't have to turn on computer to copy, etc. Purchased a Canon digital camera too, so am doing a lot of learning about operations.
Love it! April 27, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I read the reviews of this all-in-one printer, as well as others and decided to take a chance on switching from Epson, since my old printer died on me. I print a lot of photos, but also needed a work horse to serve my home office. This printer has not disappointed me. The print results are marvelous and the scan and copy features are simple, quick and satisfying. One of my concerns was the reviews that mentioned it being an ink hog. I'm happy to realize that it is not. One of the first things I did with this printer was print all of my 2007 photos for my album; there were over 170 of them. Since then I've worked it daily in my office and after a month finally had to change a couple of the ink cartridges. I think the key is to ignore the initial warning of low ink until the printer tells you it won't go any farther till you change a particular cartridge. After the initial warning, it can print for a long time before it's really necessary.
Best InkJet Printer that was ever made! April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Finally was able to find a color inkjet that prints true colors. For years my 'hp Photosmart 7150' gave me brown or pink/purple when I requested yellow. Pink when I wanted red. Started believing yellow was a shade of purple. Thrilled to be rid of those three color cartridges which always ran out of yellow first. Then you have a cartridge that still had plenty of the other colors but forget - yellow. Made a DVD label for Resurrection Sunday and wanted the background to be a bright rising sun! I had the prettiest pink and purple sun you've ever seen. If you are still using the three color hp cartridges, break free and witness true colors again!
This printer is fast. I also have a hplaserJet 4200 and this little inkjet prints as quick and clear as my laserJet. I also like the idea of processing photos without using my computer. What more can I say...When my laser gets old you can bet I'll be looking at Canon for updating my laser printer.
Good going Canon! Keep up the quality products and if your not No. 1 now, it won't be long.
I'm very happy with this all-in-one-printer April 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After trying different printers and returning them due to colors not being true, print lines on paper, blacks not black enough, I decided to try this printer. Since I need true color for my drawings, I wanted a printer with separate colors which this Canon has as well as two blacks ... the colors are brilliant especially when I print on photo paper... I am very happy with the Canon MP610. The printer is fast, easy to use, bluetooth... I would highly recommend it.
