H2 Handy Recorder Features at a Glance
The H2 Handy Recorder brings the ultimate in functionality and versatility to portable digital recording. A clear, backlit display features recording levels, time code, file name and remaining battery life. LEDs indicate Front, Rear, 2 Channel or 4 Channel modes and the recording angle: 90, 120 or 360. An Active Mic LED is on the front and back of the H2. Transport controls include one button recording, playback and pause, fast forward and rewind. Use the Menu key to enter the control menu and the cursor keys to navigate through the feature sets. Within the menu, set recording parameters such as direction and polar pattern, activate the Auto Start function and set file format. And you'll find additional settings like Auto Gain Control to make sure your recordings are always pristine. And you can fine-tune your levels on the fly with the Record Level buttons on the front. On the left side of the H2 is a 1/8" Phone/Line Output for monitoring and playback. Playback Volume, Power On and the AC power are located here as well.  Press twice to record is not intuitive, playback not internal July 24, 2008
Except for those two things I like this. The sound quality is great. Very simple to upload recordings to a computer.
Perhaps I am expecting too much here. But if I want to record something, I want it to record when I press the record button. But the first press of the record button is to set audio levels and the second press is to record. If you just want to use this as a simple recorder you may find yourself frustrated when it doesn't act like one. You press record and then notice that when you are done that you weren't recording. This is an extra level of hassle.
Then if you just want to record ideas, say, and have trained yourself to double press the record button, and you want to simply play them back, you need your earphones or some other external setup to hear a play back.
In short, if you are coming from an old mini-cassette player, you will find the quality of the H2 recordings to be wonderful, but you will not like the hassles involved in remembering to press the record button twice each time you want to record, and you will not like the fact that playback is not possible without earphones. The double record button press is especially a hassle if you want to be recording and stopping frequently, and are involved with other things getting your attention besides pressing the record button twice; it is easy to forget to press it twice.
So it may be handy compared with something straight from a recording studio, but compared with a simple cassette recorder, it is not so handy.
But I still like it.

I'm a professional trainer (sales, presentations, negotiations and influence) and we use Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder to create podcasts, interviews and other on-line audio files. I absolutely love this device. It's easy to use and produces noise-free recordings with very good digital quality. You can save files (or record directly to your computer) in mp3 or wav format. Love it!

The H2 is indeed a tiny handy device for all it does...and with 4 mics too. I appreciate the at on-board menu is simple, the instruction manual easy to understand and follow. I haven't done everything I plan with it yet, but I am confident I will be able to do it without tech support. It seems that after going through the menu, for my kind of use, there is about one set of menu settings I will normally use, so the Key Hold function is invaluable for an all-thumbs kind of guy like me. There are a few settings I will try variations of until I know exactly which I prefer, but the menu is easy to change and not dangerous for the novice. I would highly recommend the H2...it is clear on recording and clear on playback, with an excellent variety of recording mic arrangements. And the variety of transfer to computer capabilities makes moving the recordings to a song enhancement program quite simple, such as the USB cable, the USB stick and the 4ggb storage card. Thanks...

This handy little device has been getting great reviews, and not without reason. It is reasonably priced, easy to learn to use, versatile, and the recording quality is outstanding. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

As usual Amazon shipped it to me with blazing speed. The product is clear and easy to use, small screen but useful. The product is functionally built, not professional sturdy, but well made and well layed out. The built in microphones provide fantastick recording results. The playback is exquisitely clear and accurate. The line-in works as well and is very easy to set levels with. A fantastick home use product of great value and excellent performance. Would not be suitable for hard usage but perfectly acceptable for home usage with good care.
