Album Description UK singer and songwriter Leona Lewis will release her debut album, Spirit, in America on April 8, 2008. For the first time, Clive Davis and Simon Cowell teamed up to sign Lewis to J Records/SyCo Music (Cowell's joint venture with Sony BMG), and are both actively involved in the recording process for Spirit. Lewis, a 22-year-old London native and winner of the hit TV show the X Factor, a British talent show, has broken all-time sales records there with Spirit entering the album chart at Number One and becoming Britain's fastest-selling debut ever. Spirit has scanned more than two million copies worldwide since its release in November. In addition, Spirit's lead-off single "Bleeding Love" -- co-written and produced by OneRepublic frontman Ryan "Alias" Tedder -- was the U.K.'s best-selling single of 2007, claiming the Number One spot for seven weeks. Ushering in 2008, Leona received four prestigious Brit Award nominations, the UK equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Leona is currently in the studio recording two brand new tracks for the U.S. release of Spirit - "Forgive Me" by singer/songwriter superstar Akon and "Misses Glass" from the cutting edge producer/writers Madd Scientist and Rock City. Spirit is a mix of fresh pop and R&B, filled with "songs with a contemporary edge," as Lewis puts it, ranging from soulful up-tempo numbers ("I'm You," "The Best You Never Had," and "Whatever It Takes," which Lewis co-wrote) to ballads ("Better in Time," "I Will Be," and "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" -- a song that Roberta Flack made famous). Tracks were written and produced by an array of top-notch hit-makers, including Tedder, singer/songwriters Akon and Ne-Yo, songwriters Josh Alexander and Billy Steinberg, and songwriter/producers Dallas Austin, Stargate, J.R. Rotem, and Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald -- all of whom have worked with some of the biggest names in pop. In addition to gracing the covers of UK fashion publications like Harper's Bazaar, US media are touting Leona as the artist to watch in 2008: People Magazine labels her "the UK's hottest star in an "Introducing" piece," Vogue presents her in their "People Are Talking About - The Vogue 25 Cultural Highlights of 2008" and Entertainment Weekly declares her one of "8 To Watch in 2008."

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT May 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CD. THE ARTIST HAS A SOOTHING AND BEAUTIFUL VOICE. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE CD TO ANYONE. I WILL BE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING HER NEXT ALBUM.
A Bright Future May 14, 2008 I first heard Leona, as most did, one day singing her popular single Bleeding Love- and at first wasn't that attracted to the song. But after hearing it a few more times, it really grew on me. For one, her voice is very beautiful, and I realized I needed to give her whole album a try due to that. When it came out it only took me one listen to know this album would be worth the money. From samples alone Spirit promised to be a strong and overall enjoyable pop album.
And after listening to the entire album a few times, I will say there are plenty of tracks on here besides Bleeding Love worth the money. Definitely the two star tracks I think are Here I Am (absolutely gorgeous!) and the powerful Take a Bow. My other favorites behind them are Whatever it Takes, Yesterday, Better in Time and the First Time I Ever Saw Your Face. And though it is not on the US album, I really do love her Best You Never Had track as well.
But with the strong tracks there are a few that I don't listen to quite as much. Not to say she doesn't sing them well- her voice throughout delivers, it's just the songs themselves aren't too impressive and forgettable. That would be I'm You, Forgive Me, Footprints in the Sand, even Angel is only starting to grow on me.
But overall Spirit is worth the time. Leona, though some may doubt it, has a bright future ahead of her I believe. Does she still need to grow with her songs? Of course, but with a voice like hers, she has already drawn huge crowds. I'm sure she'll be sticking around for a long while.
beautiful girl sings pop May 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I gave the cd away after one listen. This girl has a fantastic voice but the music and arrangements are boring to my ears. I was disappointed.
Bleeding Love May 13, 2008 I like "Bleeding Love" a lot. It's almost similar to my love story;-). Anyways, the other selections are not really new but still nice to hear.
Leona Lewis is a promising new artist. It's worth checking out!
good value May 12, 2008 I thought three of the songs were worthy enough to go on my MP3, after I gave the disc to my 13 yr old daughter. I like her wide range of vocals. Great musical ability, not so great song writing!
