The strategy sessions over how to present Blake Lewis's post-American Idol debut must have been excruciating, as label-types scratched their heads, wondering: Is it possible to market a disc full of beat-boxing? If not, would the world warm to Blake Lewis, pop charmer? Or Blake Lewis, balladeer? The safest bet seems to have been to build a better post-prime time set by way of experimentation. Audio Day Dream unfolds much the way late-season American Idol shows do: It sets Lewis on a lot of platforms and lets him play up his charm, if not always his straight-outta-the-'80s musical predilections. Partially the brainchild of producer Ryan Tedder (One Republic), "Break Anotha" is pure beat-box Blake and, as such, it's demonically catchy. The same can be said for hip-hop and electro-tinged numbers such as "She's Makin' Me Lose It" and "Gots to Get To Her." Stabs at sentimentality surface, and they're not bad: "I Got U" may very well get you, if you like soft pop stylized with a nod in Adam Levine's direction. Overall, ADD demonstrates why Lewis blazed his way into AI's final round: He's out there, sure, but he's willing to reel it in enough to keep it real for the masses. -Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Really Fun To Listen To   July 9, 2008
I'll tell you what -

I was really hoping this album would be good. I was anticipating an album that would have a little more influence and style than you may expect from a former American Idol.. and I think this album AUDIO DAYDREAM really delivers. It wasn't fun to hear that recently ARISTA records dropped Blake Lewis after "failing to produce a radio single," off of AUDIO DAYDREAM. Blake remarked by saying something in regards to having been doing independent music for 8 years and would continue to do that. I have read that Blake is still signed with 19 Recordings' [an entertainment company run by Simon Fuller that represents and manages many former 'Idols'].

I hope he goes far with his music career and I can tell you that 'Break Anotha', 'Know My Name, and '1000 Miles are a few tracks that have been on my ipod for some time, and are cool to hear in the mix.

4 out of 5 stars Blake Lewis   June 12, 2008
This product is great, i love his music. The delivery time for this product was excellent, i didn't have to wait long at all.

5 out of 5 stars Blake is in a class of his own -- THE BEST MOST INTERESTING ARTIST in decades!!!!!!!!!!!!!   May 28, 2008
I just might be Blake Lewis' biggest new fan! This CD takes repeat playing to even begin to understand the complexity and creativity of what he does with the music. Anyone used to Blake from Idol is in for a treat AFTER they adjust to the newness of the sound which becomes more spectacular as you catch up with him since he is so far out front from where most of us reside. I CANNOT recommend this CD more highly to any true music lover, but, although the adjustment is on our part, it is well worth the effort to get to where his is with this. BUY IT and LISTEN to it until you understand it and then you'll be playing it over and over telling yourself how hot or cool he really is and he IS! Then start DANCIN' if you haven't already and get some work done while grooving to the beat. I mean cool really cool-- yea HOT HOT Blake!

3 out of 5 stars Typical debut from an AI contestant...still working out the kinks.   May 16, 2008

Well, it may not be much of an Audio Day Dream, but Blake Lewis' debut does show remarkable potential! His voice is perfect for this kind of music, and his beat-boxing is top-notch. There's nothing wrong with the choice of music and the artist at all. The problem is with the production. There's just WAY too much going on in this record! Some songs are good, but they could be great if they just cut back on all the fluff they added in. There are several songs that will hook you, ("Break Anotha" isn't even the best song on the album), but I have a hard time getting through the whole record because I just get tired of all the activity. You can't really see the talent behind the album.

I look forward to Blake's next release. I just hope he collaborates with other producers that might use his talent a little better. If there's ever an artist that's made to work with Timbaland, for example, it's Blake Lewis!

5 out of 5 stars Getting constant play time in my home   May 12, 2008

Blake Lewis was my favorite contestant of his season because I loved how unique and innovative he was. When I first got his CD I listened to it on repeat three times in a row. I can't get enough of it. The songs are catchy, fun, and a great mix of beatboxing, electonica, pop, and eighties influence. The fast songs will make you want to dance and the ballads are beautiful. The album serves as a reminder that he's not just a brilliant beatboxer but also a fantastic singer.

It's in constant play on my MP3 player and my stereo these days. Highly recommended.
