Product Description The early career of Amy Winehouse has been marked by critical acclaim and a strong following for her music but the troubled star has also made headlines for all the wrong reasons. This live concert recording should help fans to forget about the tabloid furor that surrounds Winehouse. The shows includes 17 tracks recorded live in London at the Shepherd's Bush Empire and finds Winehouse in her element as she performs songs such as "Rehab" "You Know I'm No Good" and "Valerie." Also included is a 50-minute long documentary on the singer which charts her sharp rise to fame.Format: DVD AUDIO Genre: MUSIC DVD/LIVE PERFORMANCES UPC: 602517497160 Manufacturer No: B0010249-09
Amazon.com Amy Winehouse scored a UK hit with 2003's Frank, but her follow-up is another story. Released in 2007, Back to Black blew up worldwide. So, the bouffant belter took her soulful show on the road. It turned out to be a short trip; after only a few dates, she canceled her North American tour due to "severe exhaustion." Fortunately, I Told You I Was Trouble captures the petite powerhouse before personal problems sidelined her for the rest of the year. Recorded live at London's Shepherd's Bush, Winehouse and nine-piece ensemble, including two smooth-moving back-up singers, blast through 13 originals and four covers, including the Zutons' "Valerie" and the Specials' "Hey Little Rich Girl." Vivacious voice aside, Winehouse looks uncomfortable at times, alternately awkward and endearing. Yes, she drinks, but insecurity appears to be as much to blame as (possible) inebriation, though she does loosen up after awhile. And there's some good stuff here, especially the Ronettes-inspired "Back to Black" and "Rehab." As her albums attest, Winehouse is one of the decade's most electrifying artists, but the stage may not be the best showcase for her abilities--not yet, at any rate. While I Told You I Was Trouble isn't the triumph it could've been, it isn't a train wreck either. The informative 50-minute documentary features interviews with Winehouse, her proud papa, and the A&R representative who signed her to Island Records. One of the lady's more interesting revelations: "The more insecure I get, the bigger my hair has to be." --Kathleen C. Fennessy

amy Winehouse rocks! August 15, 2008 this is an amazing concert- yes, she is trouble, but oh so talented. I saw this concert on Lufthansa in first class on my last month trip and loved it- even at 51 years old, I still like this music genre and I hope she cleans her act up and releases many more great CDs
Wow July 22, 2008 I fell in love with Amy at the Mandela concert in June 2008. Had only heard she won several Emmys, never seen her, was unaware of a single title. But she blew me away with her sheer presence. I was pretty close to the stage, but I rate her presence up with some all stars - Santana, Jethro Tull, Bowie, Hendrix and JFK - does that really date me! She is a great singer. Period. The range of music in her live concert is simply fabulous. The band behind her is equally fabulous and that is her musician recommendation. My recommendation is that I have watched her concert every night for the last 4 nights and I have only owned the DVD that long. I haven't seen the DVD to the end. Oh my and she likes Thelonious Monk - so do I. But I am caught up in the fears surrounding her well being - if there were anything I could do to help her I surely would - she is such a plus to our world. Would love to meet her - she exudes.
Wonderful Winehouse July 20, 2008 Amy can belt 'em out, as well as just belt 'em. This is the best of her CD's, as far as I'm concerned. Love it and her. What a voice!
Vendor was great in getting the product to me on time and in good condition, as promised. Would highly recommend both artist and vendor.
Winehouse video June 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I enjoyed the type of music - a fresh take on classic jazz, motown, and ska. The band is outstanding, full of energy and fun to watch. Amy's voice is very natural although it is true that as the performance goes on, she appears a bit inebriated. However, for me, this factor did not ruin the musical message. I enjoyed seeing the documentary about how Amy became famous and the history behind some of the songs. I'm impressed with how down to earth she can be off the stage. Overall, this is a great video to sit down and relax with - it is also perfect for having on in the background at a party to liven things up. It's colorful, artsy, unique, and not disturbingly loud or obnoxious.
Couldnt watch it. June 7, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
