I'm taking it back November 16, 2008 Five years ago, we bought a Bissell ProHeat carpet cleaner, and we used the heck out of it. Over the years, I broke off parts, patched it back up, and it kept working. Finally, it bit the dust this fall I went out and bought the Model 9200 ProHeat 2x as a replacement. Let's just say this year's crop wasn't as good as the crop in 2003.
It still cleans the carpet, but there are two crucial areas where this model falls short. First, there is no visual indicator to let you know it is still feeding water and/or solution. The old model also had a light to show you if you were pulling too fast or too slow.
The new model doesn't seem to dry the carpet as well, and it seems like the water and solution run out faster than the old model.
Looking over the market, it doesn't seem like there are as many models to choose from as there were five years ago. Progress?
Outstanding Machine October 31, 2008 In our home every room but the kitchen is carpeted. We are active gardeners, so we have our share of "accidents" on the carpets. We used to rent those big, bulky steam cleaners from the store once or twice a year to try to keep the carpets under control. We also hired a professional carpet cleaning company - at $100+ - to come in and do the carpets. Recently, regular wear and tear was compounded when our elderly dog became incontinent and began leaving messes on the carpets almost daily.
At wits end, I decided to buy a mid-priced carpet cleaner and decided on this Bissell - virtually by chance. What a GREAT decision!
This machine is easy to put together, easy to operate, and it literally does as good a job as the pros do. Owning a carpet cleaner has allowed us (even with our dog gone now) to spot clean our carpets, do an entire room, or even the whole house - as needed - whenever we choose. All for less than the cost of two visits by the pros.
I would strongly suggest sticking with the Bissell brand cleaning solution, however. Generics don't work nearly as well. This is, by far, the best appliance - for the money - that we have ever purchased.
Great machine, minor quirks, but does a great job September 24, 2008 It was interesting to read the experiences of others with this machine. Growing up my mother had an older carpet cleaner, so my main experiences with them had been an older-style one prior to getting this one. However, I tend to be very particular about what I like and am a bit of a perfectionist, so the fact that I am happy with this machine does say something.
First let me say that Bissell has a "low repair rate" according to Consumer Reports. Bissell is much less likely than for instance Hoover to break based on their research.
The machine was very, very easy to assemble. I did it while talking on the phone and it took less than 5 minutes. I only glanced at the instructions once or twice. It was easy to put the cleaning solution and the water into it and after only a few minutes I was ready to go. It is a little heavy, but not bad at all and I was easily able to maneuver it around the house.
I didn't have any problems with it leaving water in the carpet or not sucking the water back up. It did just fine in that area. I did have the clumps of hair that it kept pulling up that I had to keep picking up. I have two dogs and even though I had just vacuumed, apparently my vacuum doesn't get all of it, because this machine certainly does! Its a bit of a pain to have to keep picking it all up, but then again, I'm grateful that it is pulling it up. Someone without as many pets would probably be less likely to have this be as much of an issue.
Once I stopped shampooing and turned it off, it did leak a little bit of water, but not as much as some others are describing. I haven't seen it leak any of the cleaning solution, but I'm going to go ahead and take the cleaning solution container out of the machine so I don't have to worry about that being a problem.
It did a great job getting up spots that I hadn't been able to get up before and got them up very quickly! I was impressed and quite thrilled. There was one spot I had tried 3 or 4 times to get up by hand with Resolve and a few other cleaners, but to no avail. It took less than 5 minutes to get it up with this thing. Just a couple of minutes over an ink spot got that up too! I am quite happy with it and think its a very good buy. I hope this helps!
My carpet is clean! Yay! September 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned this machine a few months and have used it to clean my carpet and my sectional and it works great! My carpet had stains that were set in (food, soda, pet stuff) and I thought there was no way they would come out. But I just ran the machine over them a couple of times and voila!, clean carpet. I couldn't believe it. I have pets that have accidents and hairballs, yuck!, but they are no problem now since I have this machine. My only regret is that I didn't get the model a little better than this one that has more tools and a dryer, but this is good enough for my needs and the floor is not left soaked when done. I have owned a couple of carpet cleaners in the past (Bissells included)and they just didn't work well at all so I wasn't sure I should buy this. I am glad I did because this generation of steam cleaners is far superior to the ones I've owned in the past. There is no comparison in the cleaning ability. I see some other reviews say it eventually stopped working so I will come back and edit post if I have any trouble, but so far, so good..and worth every penny.
Love that Bissell! August 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the 9200 ProHeat 2x on August 15, 2008. The next day I proceeded to clean my beige rug, which did have spots on it that I tried cleaning up this past year with spot remover. I was amazed how this machine cleaned my rug beautifully. Aside from those spots, the rug did not LOOK dirty, but the water in the dirty water tank was filthy! Yesterday I used the upholstery attachment on my two sofas and they look great-again, very filthy water. Mind you, looking at the 12 yr old sofas you'd not think they were dirty. So, I love my Bissell! I read the reviews here carefully and did not have any problems myself. Any inconveniences are already mentioned in other reviews, but I don't mind the extra work for a clean rug and upholstery. So, don't always believe the bad ratings. See for yourself like I did. I was prepared to take it back to the store if it did not meet my satisfaction, but I am satisfied how it cleans and how it DOES heat up the water 25 degrees more like it says.
