Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
The miniature Ibis is sized to boil water for one. Its modern Scandinavian design makes it an attractive office companion for boiling water to make tea or coffee. And, with its reasonable price, this kettle travels well to college to make instant noodles in a dorm room. Made of heavyweight polypropelene plastic with a copper-sheathed, nickel-plated heating element, the Mini Ibis holds a maximum of 27 fluid ounces of water (about 3-1/2-cups). It must be filled to a minimum of 7 fluid ounces--just enough to cover the heating element--to operate. Plugging the unit in and flipping up the switch below the kettle's handle turns on the power. The heating process is rapid and quiet: it takes only 4 minutes to boil 27 ounces of water and the sound is almost imperceptible. For safety purposes, the Ibis automatically shuts off after boiling and has a locking lid to prevent spilling and a frosted handle for a secure grip. --Cristina Vaamonde

3 out of 5 stars Good kettle, finicky base design   January 10, 2008
Boils water quickly, but because of where the electrical contact is on the base (not centered like others), it often doesn't make contact when the kettle is placed on top, and must be jiggled into place. If you don't get it right you come back 5 minutes later to find that it never started heating...

2 out of 5 stars Works like a charm -- when it works   December 11, 2007
My husband bought me one of these two years ago for Christmas. I was ecstatic, because I love tea and was sick of boiling water in the microwave for it. This kettle worked great -- for about 10 months. Then one morning, with no warning, the kettle gushed water from the bottom when I filled it.

We returned the kettle to Bodum for a replacement, as it was still under warranty. The replacement kettle would not attach to the heating element. We sent it back and got a second replacement. It has worked well -- for about 10 months, when the automatic switch mechanism failed. We had to start watching the thing like a hawk to take it off the element when it reached a boil (we can't shut the switch off manually because it doesn't work). Now, this morning, it just didn't turn on at all.

The kettle is STILL under warranty, so we could return it for a new one, but we're giving up and trying a different brand.

4 out of 5 stars Worked great while it lasted...   November 13, 2007

We've had this Bodum Ibis cordless water kettle for at least 2 years now, and have always been happy with it's performance until now.

Occasionally it wouldn't sit down on the base exactly, and recently it started shutting off before it was done boiling (though the switch didn't shut off, so I think it was a loose connection). But the worst was the other day when the plastic on the base where the prongs connect from the kettle just started to melt. I don't know how it happened, but it is now no longer usable due to the acrid stench of melting plastic when it is in use.

While this kettle worked, we loved it. I may look at other brands before replacing this one, but most likely I'll end up with another Bodum Ibis because it really did work great for those two years.

5 out of 5 stars Great time and energy saver!!   August 3, 2007
Every claim this product has made is true - water for tea boils in a jiffy, it would take several minutes to heat the same amount of water on the stove! And I found out that you can make hard boiled eggs in this as well, the smoothest hard boiled eggs I ever had!

This kettle is a good item and very nice to transport, but the non-detachable base is kind of annoying. But this is very fast when compared to the larger version and way better than boiling over a stove.
