5 out of 5 stars Excellent mid range machine - not for "push-a-button-cappuccino" though   March 12, 2007
I absolutely LOVE this unit! My wife bought this machine for me a little over one year ago. It does take practice to make consistent espresso and microbubble milk, but this reasonably priced machine is very capable of both!

As others have noted, you MUST follow the directions or you will end up with leaking, weak shots, etc. Once you're there, you can make some beautiful crema espresso and even good enough frothed milk to do basic latte art. I've been able to make significantly better drinks than I get in the local coffee bars. (I blame those barista's for being lazy, but it speaks volumes that this machine is even capable of something near a commercial machine!)

This all said, if you want quick/easy "push-this-button-cappuccino" you should look elsewhere and be ok with inferior taste and quality (or else invest $800+ in a serious, prosumer machine).

The ability to use pods is also a great convenience, especially if you take your operation out with you as we do from time to time.

1 out of 5 stars Good espresso, if it worked   December 10, 2006
Don't buy this machine. It makes pretty good espresso. But less than a year after I bought it, the milk frother stopped working. I sent it back to Briel and had it repaired. Fair enough. But a few months later, the machine stopped working altogether. No pressure build-up. No espresso.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth the Price   October 14, 2006
Bought this as a gift for my wife a year ago. It worked well the first two times then it just quit working. The company's warranty may as well not exist because noone ever answers the phone. I would never, ever buy another product from the Briel company.

1 out of 5 stars Inconsistent Performance   September 2, 2006
The machine is pretty good in terms of features, noise, and time, but it never delivered a consistent cup of espresso. Sometimes the strength would be fine, other times it would be very weak. I would use the same technique each time, but the result would be different. I tried a stronger roast, a different grind - couldn't ever get the machine to brew a cup of espresso the same way twice. I purchased a $30 machine from Target years ago that this one replaced and the $30 jobbie was much better and delivered the same cup of java every time. Disappointing. I guess I'll try a cheaper machine this time around.

this baby whips out the blackest black coffe faster than I'm able to down it. Never mind the price. It is magic in its pure form...
