Failed after 6 months July 17, 2008 I bought it, and it started failing apart after a few months of moderate use. First, its light began to blink sporadically. Then the light quit working. Then the auto-shutdown system quit working - it would boil the water indefinitely, until I turn it off. Finally, it shortened my kitchen. At this point, I considered it simply dangerous, and sent it to the garbage can.
Kettle review July 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was a replacement for the same kettle we had had for several years and happy with it, this one seems to take a little longer to auto off, but still satisfied.
Half good, half bad. July 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've had our Breville kettle for over a year. On the positive side, this kettle boils water very quickly, is easy to clean, and looks beautiful. On the negative side, the sides of the kettle get very hot - hot enough to give you a small burn if you're not careful. And, my biggest complaint, it takes a long time to automatically shut off. Your water will be boiling away steaming up the room for several minutes before the kettle 'dings.' Still, the goods outweigh the bads. We wish it were a better kettle, especially for the money, but we are at least satisfied.
Absolutely outstanding June 18, 2008 We spent a few months last year in an apartment in Montpellier France. The apartment came equipped with an old Philips hot water kettle. At first my husband poo-pood the idea of such an appliance but quickly came around to the notion that this was just dandy. Upon our return to California he instructed me to find a hot water kettle, find one fast and he didn't care about the price!!! Wow! I did care about the price and I cared about the quality. After researching for a while I found the Breville to be consistently in the top 5.
I volunteer for the Oakland Museum White Elephant Sale. Lo and behold, there was my Breville kettle in the appliance department. I was concerned about it being a "smelly" one, but decided to take a chance. Best $15 bucks I ever spent. Not a day goes by without my using the kettle for tea, hot water for pasta, instant cereal, soaking stone cut oatmeal, anything at all. No increase in our electrical bill either.
If ever it dies, I will happily pay full price for it (or Amazon's price!).
Love it! June 16, 2008 I bought this because my regular old stove top kettle had started to rust and the water was tasting funny. I wish I had bought it years ago, and here's why:
--Quick to heat the water --Turns off automatically --Stays hot --Odorless, even when brand new --Holds more than my old Calphalon
It would have been nice not to have to worry about the whistle when my daughter was still a baby and napped. Sometimes I would leave the whistle open, but then ran the risk of boiling off all the water and ruining the kettle, especially since I had serious baby brain at that point. If you're a tea drinker, this is just the ticket.
