Drying apple slices in just three hours and beef jerky in four, this 1000-watt dehydrator is exceptionally fast, using a big, 4-1/2-inch fan to force air up through the drying trays' outer rings and across each tray. A thermostat adjusts from 95 degrees to 155 degrees for drying different items. Each of the four plastic trays is 13-3/4 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch deep—that's four square feet for drying fruits, vegetables, herbs, or flowers at one time. Additional trays can be ordered separately, and up to 30 trays can be stacked on this unit's metal base at once. A fruit-roll sheet inserts into a tray so that applesauce or other fruit sauces can be dried into healthful snacks, and soups and sauces can be dehydrated for camping trips.  love to dry herbs October 8, 2008
I dry herbs because I grow so many and use them all winter long. I also dried fruit this year and plan to do much more next season with tomatoes, peppers, beans, parsnips, carrots...they taste great dried as a snack.

I am totally enamored of this dehydrator! It is easy to use, dries fruit overnight, and effectively preserves the flavor in everything I've dried in it so far (apple chips & leather, plum slices, strawberry slices, kiwi, carrot, pear...) it is fantastic! It is, however, worth investing in the clean-a-screens...
Great dehydrator at a great price October 6, 2008
The dehydrator arrived quickly, operates easily, and does a great job with tomatoes, peppers and herbs. I haven't tried the dehydrator with jerky, as this is not the reason I bought it. The use of the mesh screens helps a great deal and I would recommend purchasing additional ones, if you plan to generally use it for drying herbs.

This is a drying machine for sure. It's a little loud and generates a lot of heat. I found if I just put it in another room and close the door I can live with it.Does a great job of drying. Makes great healthy fruit roll ups. I never knew drying food was so easy without sulfides too.

I ordered this so that I could dehydrate a lot of the veggies we are growing in our garden, as we can't eat them fast enough. I picked this one due to cost and the amount of positive reviews it had received. We have not had a chance to use it to dehydrate veggies yet, but we did make beef jerky and it works great for that. Took about 5 1/2 - 6 hours for a little less than 5 pounds of meat. The only thing about this dehydrator that I would change would be how many trays it comes with, as it needs at least 2 to 4 more, I guess I will be ordering those soon, and the location of the fan and vents on the bottom. Drippings can get in there easily and it makes it hard to clean up. Maybe if there was a way to open it up in the base to make it easier to clean. Still a great product and easy to use. The trays clean up a lot easier that I thought they would, but I lightly coated them with olive oil to ensure nothing would stick, that might have helped.
