Total Crap August 1, 2008 Right out of the box it was defective. Said that my roast was 380 degrees when I pulled it out of the fridge. Tested in on a cooked roast, said that the temperature was too high to measure at ver 450 degrees. Riiiiiiiight.
Utter piece of garbage, this product.
Well worth the money July 9, 2008 Read several reviews on this product and found most of the negitive to be user errors. Since purchasing this product, I have used it several times. I even used it while pulling the smoker down the highway and the magnetic feet kept it in place. Several people complained about it not having an shutoff switch, I found that the batteries last a long time and didn't need to be shutoff. The probe worked well and the cord was as good as my other one that I also use everytime I smoke. It's good to have more than one of these for multiple pieces of meat.
Great thermometer but it has its ups and downs July 7, 2008 Its great. I bought it for school for making sponge cakes, Italian Meringue, and cooking sugar. I haven't regretted spending the money on it yet. The timer on it is also conveniently useful. However The cord does burn easily and when it does the temperature reading doesnt work very well so you must be careful when using near an open flame. Also This doesnt have an on and off switch so I have to continually take the battery out when not in use.
Only used it twice... July 6, 2008 The first time I used it, it was fine. The second time, when the probe was unplugged it read the temp as "lo". When the probe was plugged in, it read "hi" and beeped continually. The probe tip was not inserted into anything to be reading a temperature! I'll try a replacement and let you know how that works. Good think I didn't wait too long to try it!
Works fine but I have only used it twice so far June 30, 2008 No problems with this unit yet. I am using it in my vertical smoker, even though the instructions state not to use it in a smoker or grill. But I figure that the smoker is only used to about 290 Degrees at the most, so I don't see how it will hurt. The only other thing I don't care for is that there is no "Off" button on it, the display is always on. I guess thats because you could use it as a plain timer if you like, but it makes me wonder about battery life.
