awesome July 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not much of a reviewer, but more of a rater only. But, I give this 5 stars because it is simple to use, it has a great price, and produces amazingly good espresso! Definitely get this model if you want a good machine that won't break your bank!
P.S. Illy espresso pods work great with this machine.
dangerous compression July 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After making a cup of coffee it is normal to be able to remove the Portafilter. With this machine the pressure stayed on and would not let up. When turning the filter handle to open hot coffee grounds sprayed 4' to 5' away, accompanied of hot steam and water, causing a mess and risk. The customer service department was not very helpful. I returned the unit to Amazon granting me a complete reimbursement. I am done with this brand.

Nice Espresso make - Service Issues though February 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Aroma line appears to be a solid, basic, decently designed espresso maker that, as a newbie shot puller, I have found to make it very easy to pull a decent shot right out of the gate. Everything I wanted was there; solid pump pressure to allow finer grinds, generous water reservoir, basic but solid construction (for the most part), a pressurized portafilter that lets the steam pressure build to a good level before allowing the shot to start pouring, a heated top for keeping those shot glasses warm, and an easy to use steaming wand. Just enough controls to give you the basics (power, pump, steam boost) but no bling to speak of (if you're into that look elsewhere).
Some construction in surprising areas is flimsy, like the portafilter. The handle is hollow brittle plastic, compared to others that use a solid handle where the steel of the filter body goes through the handle.
Customer support is where I had my issue. Very knowledgeable and quickly offered to send me another portafilter handle when mine broke, but it took three months, 3 emails, and 3 phone calls to get the replacement. I hope I'm just the exception.
a great cup o' joe February 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I saw this first on an episode of Alton Brown's show (brand blinded, but I'm pretty sure this was the machine). I had used a Gaggia in the past which worked pretty well, but this one had met if not exceeded my hopes. I make espresso/cappuccino almost daily and in the three months I've had this unit it has performed beautifully. It's fairly quiet, heats up quickly, and consistently makes good espresso. It is critical to have a good grinder for the consistency of the coffee you're using, so understand there is more to good espresso than the machine. Overall, great machine at a good price. No complaints.
