Excellent value May 2, 2008 This is a sturdy, durable product. We use it mostly for kneading dough and it works very well. Easy to use and easy to clean. A bit too heavy for moving around- but its something that goes as a side effect of durability. Our last stand mixer was destroyed (motor burnt out) because it was cheap plastic frame and couldnt handle dough mixing. This one does 8 cups easily..
HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT May 2, 2008 I have always heard great things about KitchenAid, and started wanting one as I became more of an active baker. I was thrilled to see Amazon have this on their GoldBox deal one day, and quickly purchased it.
I am sorry to say that my experience with this KitchenAid model has been terrible. It sounds awful when mixing, and eventually starts bouncing across the counter. I called customer service...they ARE very helpful and polite, and will ship you a replacement within a week. The trouble is that I am currently on MY FOURTH APPLIANCE. I am stubborn and hope that I have just had bad luck--so I keep calling them--but judging from the other reviews, it is just a crappy product. Each time I have mixed nothing thicker than icing, and within 4-5 sessions of use it starts this bouncing act.
I will give them one more chance, but plan to ask Amazon for a return/refund if the next one stinks as well.
EXCELLENT April 29, 2008 I have never used a Kitchen Aid Mixer in my life. I read the booklet that came with the mixer and used my own recipe to make banana bread this past weekend. I just don't know how I have gotten along without a Kitchen Aid Mixer for this long in my life. And more amazing to me is that my Mom never had a Kitchen Aid Mixer. I JUST LOVE IT!!!
Almost perfect! April 29, 2008 After using a Sunbeam Mixmaster for 28 years, I bought another one to replace it, only to find that they "don't make them like they used to". The motor burnt out within 18 months. That's when I bought my KitchenAid Artisan. I LOVE it! It's very sturdy and the motor feels like it will last forever. It mixes well and I find the parts easy to handle, easy to wash. The only drawback I can find is that there isn't much room to insert ingredients into the bowl once the machine is operational. I have the chute, which I use, but would prefer more space between the bowl and the motor head. Also, it's a bit heavy for me to drag across the counter, but that's what makes it so sturdy. Absolutely a must for ppl having to knead dough April 28, 2008 I have had this mixer for about 4 months now and I cannot say enough good things about it. I make rotis/tortillas very regularly and this not only saves tons of kneading time but avoids the mess and actually makes the dough softer. once you get the hang of flour to water proportions just throw it all in if you want, adjust it to speed 2 and add in a few drops of oil when it's almost done. You will have soft, slightly warm and perfectly consistent dough. I have also used this for batters and the consistency is amazing. It is very easy to clean and even though it's dishwasher safe I love this machine so much that I quickly hand wash vessel after each use.
