Amazon.com Review
Eliminate 99% of the lead and reduce chlorine, mercury, and sediment in drinking water with Brita's Magnum II Filtration Pitcher. Larger than the standard Brita pitcher, it holds up to 80 ounces of clean, filtered water. Just pop the filter cylinder in the white plastic water reservoir, fill with cold tap water, and in just minutes the pitcher's brimming with healthy, great tasting water. Each filter--one comes with the pitcher and you can order others--lasts for 40 gallons of water. As an added feature, a filter replacement indicator relays when it's time for a new one. The sleek, clear plastic pitcher sports an easy-grip handle, while the white plastic lid features two openings: one for filling the pitcher and one for pouring. --Marianne Painter

5 out of 5 stars Great price and works well   July 16, 2008
For $25 Amazon has a great price for this Brita pitcher. The prep for these pitchers is more than I thought but easy. You can't just pour water in and start drinking. You have to soak the filter for 15 minutes, wash the pitcher in and out, then run two full pitchers before drinking your first cup.

The water does taste different than my tap. This pitcher requires two full reservoirs to fill the pitcher. The reservoir filters water in about 3-4 minutes.

A filter is supposed to last 2 months (at two full pitchers a day). Amazon sells a 3 pack for about $17, so about $5.50 for a month's worth of purified water.

5 out of 5 stars The best thing that could happen to water.   July 13, 2008
This product is an excellent value. I purchased one because I was tired of buying jug after jug of spring water, and I didn't care for the taste of my city water. This pitcher makes it delicious, and pays for itself quickly.

5 out of 5 stars Brita   June 14, 2008
Excellent item. Purchased via Amazon.com because the item is no longer in production and not available through local merchants. This pitcher is of a capacity we desired and fits easily in our refridgerator.

5 out of 5 stars Everything I had Hoped For   May 24, 2008
For years I've been buying bottled water for drinking purposes. The water in our area has a lot of clorine in it and it's OK for cooking but just not for drinking, at least to me! When I heard how those plastic bottles stay in landfills forever I realized I wasn't doing anything good for future generations. I was also tired of lugging home cases of bottled water, that really gets old! I'd heard of Brita Water Pitchers before and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad that I did! There is absolutely no chemical taste to the water and it is crystal clear. I highly recommend that you buy one. It works better than the filter on my fridge ever did. I can't tell the difference between Brita filtered water and the bottled waters I used to buy(Aquafina &Disani). And the price? Very reasonable compared to buying bottled water. It will pay for itself in no time with what you save.

4 out of 5 stars the taste is worth the trouble   April 3, 2008
Having owned multiple pitchers from Brita, I would say the biggest problem with them is that they are made of slick, unevenly-weighted plastic parts. This makes them hard to use and easy to accidently drop, especially when they're filled with water. The plastic in the lid and reservoir is especially weak and these parts can easily snap in half (becoming unusable) if dropped, even on a carpeted surface.

Other common, but lesser criticisms:
- Pitchers may not fit well in your refrigerator
- Pitchers need to be cleaned periodically to fight mold, but are NOT dishwasher safe
- Pitchers unsuitable for families that go through a lot of water quickly (opt for faucet mount)

All that said, the pitchers do actually work. Many people successfully use these pitchers to make their terrible tap water taste better (myself included). If you can train yourself to handle them extra carefully, and remember to clean them and refill them you should be fine. And yes, you have to change the filter about every two months, but you only need six to last a year (one comes with the pitcher and you can get a 5-pack for about $30). If it still sounds like too much trouble though, pitcher filters probably aren't for you; from what I've heard, pitcher filters from other brands suffer the same drawbacks.
