Bananas for Bananagrams August 15, 2008 It's a great "solitary" game that is played with several other people. Kind of like scrabble, it tests your brain to see words in a pile of letters and then create your own "crossword" board....before anyone else does. It's quick and easy...we like that.
Rave review for fast paced Bananagrams August 13, 2008 bananagrams is kind of a cross between scrabble and a cross word puzzle - each player makes his own board of words simultaneously - so no waiting between turns as in scrabble which eliminates tedium. Its also a quick game - we can play about 20 times in a row with no problem - good for groups - perfect for the weekend cabin activity.
A toy for all age groups August 12, 2008 I have ordered three of these now, for people ages 4, 49 and 84. You can play this by yourself or with up to 4-6 people. Generally, I play with one other person and the 144 tiles provide three games. Enormously entertaining. Goes faster than Scrabble and just as intellectually challenging. I highly recommend it. Unlike Scrabble, there are no points (even on the tiles), the game winner is decided by who uses all their tiles first in a crossword pattern.
The variation I play is to pass out 34 tiles to each of two players. If stumped you can trade in a tile for three more. Once that game is complete, each player draws 34 more from the original group. The more tiles you play in a round, the more interesting it is as you can include some pretty big words (one you would never see in Scrabble). My Mom, who has been a Scrabble and crossword enthusiast for decades, loves this game. My niece like to spell out easy words, but will soon work her way up.
My Mom and I sorted out all the tiles to see how they compared to Scrabble. Q's, Z's, X's in limited numbers vs. many, many a,e,i,o,u vowels.
It comes in a portable yellow banana themed bag, so you can take it on vacation or to parties.
Banana Fun August 8, 2008 My grandchildren had this game and since I love Scrabble, I took to it immediately. I like it because it moves quickly and you do not have to keep score. In fact, I ordered it for myself and play solo.
Fantastic! August 1, 2008 Banagrams is so much fun. The games are quick, two or more can play, and it is also educational. It's a little like Scrabble, only faster and much more portable. I highly recommend it!
