Perfect! July 24, 2008 I've had this switch for over a month now and it hasn't given me any trouble at all. It works perfectly with my compact florescent light bulbs. There is an audible click when it turns on and off, so it is a true relay. I like that you can just push the faceplate to manually turn it on or off. I had a cheaper digital timer previously that looked similar but didn't have a relay. This caused the CFS bulbs to flicker when it was in the off setting, and this ruined the balasts in them. I went through 5 bulbs in the month that I had the cheaper unit installed. I haven't had to replace any with this switch.
Well worth the money. Highly recommend.
Intermatic programmable switch- works with CFL bulbs July 19, 2008 I had the previous model, which worked well for about 3 years, then finally died. The new version is OK, but the buttons are actually smaller which makes doing the initial setup a bit harder. I used a pencil eraser to tap everything.
Not too sure how I like the new battery, either. The old one used regular AAA, which was easy to replace. this one will be a little tougher and require some planning, but I hope the battery will last longer.
ST01C Wall Timer July 18, 2008 Very nice improvement over the old model. Easy to install, just follow the instruction sheet. Programming is well documented and easy to do. The best feature for my application is the auto sunset on. No need to set a start time. If you set your time zone, it will turn on at twilight. It even knows about daylight saving time.
Best feature is that it works consistently. Even the battery backup works.
I recommend this timer to anyone in need of this type of product.
Very Nice...Finally July 17, 2008 I'm an Electrical Contractor & install about 2 of these per week. Intermatic finally got the design right. The previous, SS7, SS8 had design flaws. I have not had a call back or complaint about these yet. Pros...Set it forget it, many programmable features, My Orthodox customers use this on the weekends, Recognizes daylight savings time changes, 2 wire 2 screws hook up, will control CFL's or motor loads, more attractive design than before. Cons... small display, difficult to program the first time, takes up a lot of room inside your junction box
Great timer, would definitely purchase again July 6, 2008 Purchased this product for two light fixtures illuminating my driveway. I wanted to switch the bulbs in these fixtures from incandescent to fluorescent bulbs and I had read that some of these switches do not work well with fluorescent bulbs. I took a chance and ordered this switch and I am very happy with it. The installation isn't too bad if you are comfortable with electrical. It was a little tricky to program and the instructions were not totally clear (hence the 4 star rating) but after some trial and error, I had it programmed correctly. Now my driveway is illuminated at dusk and shuts off at dawn automatically. I replaced two 60 watt bulbs with two 100 watt equivalent fluorescent bulbs that use only 46 watts combined. It is much brighter and I feel good about saving energy and $$.
