I am delighted with this purchase. Yes, there was a very slight odor initially but you would have to stick your nose inside the ottoman to actually smell it. Within a day or two, it was completely gone. I wanted the larger ottoman for magazines and a small ottoman to put my feet on. Perfect! And a great price! Thank you, Amazon, for another terrific deal.

Whew!!!! These definitely had a strong odor to them when I received and took them out of the box and polly bag. But were at a great price so I just left them opened up in the garage and a some air time out in the sun took care of that. Bought a pair to use in the family/game/tv room.

Wow!!! for the price I paid these are a nice addition to my living space. No smell either, zero odor. I suspect a batch may have been contaminated and that's why we see reports.

We purchased these the last time they were on sale. The sizes are just right...the small one is upstairs in the sitting room, the larger one in the basement rec room. The storage in the larger one is great. The quality is decent...we're not rough with them, and so far they look great and have no scuffs or anything...we use them both constantly as foot rests.
Regarding the chemical smell, they both smelled really strongly of vinyl/gasoline for several weeks. The smell made us both get bad headaches. The smell does eventually go away (or maybe it kills the nerves that detect the smell - either way we don't notice it anymore). I did put them outside in the sun for several days. Whether that helped speed the process, I don't know. But we've had them 5 months now and like them a lot.

I've had this set for over 4 months now and the smell has not subsided at all. I was using the big ottoman to store an extra bed sheet set, but it transferred its smell onto the sheets too. The smell is bad enough to make the set rather worthless to me.
